Three Brussels tapestry panels of colourful Neo-Classical form the frieze panel bearing a date of 1557 but probably 17th/18th century, together with two cushions incorporating further sections of tapestry, all probably taken from the border of a larger hanging 200 cm x 37 cm the largest section (the frieze panel).Small tears in the weaving.
ROBERT LITCHFIELD JUNIPER (AUSTRALIAN 1929-2012) SUMMER TAPESTRY Mixed media on board Signed and dated 1961 (lower right) 86 x 104.5cm (33¾ x 41 in.)Provenance: Purportedly from the private collection of Hermione Gingold Private Collection, Lady Caroline Conran Robert Litchfield Juniper was born in Merredin, Western Australia in 1929. During the early 1940s Juniper studied commercial art and industrial design at Beckenham School of Art in the United Kingdom. On his return to Perth, Australia in 1949 Juniper took up teaching whilst continuing his own creative exploration, experimenting with printmaking, sculpting and mixed media. Throughout his career, the outback and the rural landscape served as great inspiration for Juniper. His distinctive style merged elements of abstraction and realism capturing the atmospheric qualities of the natural world through his use of mixed media and the textures this provided. Juniper has held numerous one-man exhibitions throughout Australia and represented in group shows internationally. Condition Report: Mixed media on board. Some fine craquelure visible to the white pigment around the edges, these are in small sporadic patches. Two circular losses to the left edge the largest 1cm. One larger circular area approx. 1.5cm the surface is a little unstable this is also the case for a similar sized circular area below the signature. With a small circular loss just above, although this may have been artist's intention. Possible area of varnish blooming to lower right quadrant in the red pigment, or perhaps artist's intention. Vintage single check design woollen Welsh tapestry blanket with fringed edge, together with three woollen Welsh tapestry cushions in various colorways. (4) (B.P. 21% + VAT) Blanket - slightly faded, no obvious damage. 190x98cm approx. (including fringe). Cushions - all are a bit faded with minor wear. Yellow and purple have brown stains. Blue has multiple stains and a small hole.
