A Flemish tapestry fragment, early 18th century, depicting the gathering of manna in the desert, Moses stands to the foreground with a staff giving thanks to God while figures around him collect the falling bread of heaven from the ground into baskets, the cut and re-joined borders with fruit, flowers, parrots and figures holding urns of fruit and flowers, later backed, approx. 337 x 332cm Footnotes: Note: This tapestry depicts the events of Exodus 16: 14-35 in the Old Testament, the story of the Israelites receiving food from heaven as they wander in the desert. God promises Moses that he will send bread to feed the starving Israelites and one morning small round loaves of bread, manna, fall from heaven and save the people from starvation. This scene has been depicted in art through the centuries, famously by Peter Paul Rubens (1577-1640), in c.1625.Condition Report: This tapestry is heavily worn overall. There are splits, frayed patches and fading overall. Some areas of reworking, particularly to the lower section which also has a heavily worn and split edge. The colours are faded throughout with discolouration, especially to the sky. It is later backed and there are losses visible to the edges. As noted in the description the borders are cut and re-joined, the tapestry is reduced.
A late Louis XIV Gobelins pastoral tapestry, after ‘Summer’ from the series ‘Les Enfants Jardiniers’, after designs by Charles le Brun, early 18th century, woven in wools and silks, depicting a formal garden with children gardening and watering plants, with two peacocks standing by a fountain beneath trees, within a flowering acanthus border, approx. 337 x 522cm Footnotes: Note: The present series was popular with early 18th century audiences and was reimagined by several workshops, including the manufactories at Lille, however the border design is of the type used by the Gobelins workshop.

Longest measures approx. 42cm x 125cm.
A FLEMISH TAPESTRY FRAGMENT LATE 17TH CENTURY Depicting stonemasons at work, buildings under construction beyond, border with central lower cartouche with entwined cypher approximately 280 x 183cm It has been suggested that this fragment may come from a panel depicting the construction of the Tower of Babel, possibly after Michiel Coxie the Elder. A complete version of one of these scenes dating from the mid-16th century by the workshop of Pieter van Aelst the Younger is held in Wawel Royal Castle - Polish National Art Collection.
A WALNUT AND TAPESTRY LONG STOOL OR WINDOW SEAT 19TH CENTURY, THE TAPESTRY 17TH OR 18TH CENTURY 42cm high, 152cm wide, 46cm deep Condition Report: Frame with the marks, knocks, scratches and abrasions commensurate with age and use. Some evidence and losses to timber elements from old worm. The larger 'worm holes' appear to have been done on purpose to give the appearance of greater age. Tapestry with the expected wear, fading, pulls, minor opening along colour lines and minor small holes/tears. Various old neatly stitched repairs to tapestry. A LARGE OIL ON CANVAS PAINTING OF A CARTOON FOR A TAPESTRY FRENCH, LATE 19TH CENTURY With verdure design encompassing birds and river approximately 190 x 208cm Condition Report: The canvas presents many scattered superficial scratches across the whole surface; furthermore, there are various dotted, but hardly noticeable, losses of paint, and dirt stains. UV light reveals no evident signs of restauration. The canvas has suffered, as scratches and creases seem to indicate that it might have been rolled, hence the various superficial paint losses. A VERDURE TAPESTRY PROBABLY FLEMISH, 18TH CENTURY Depicting a white crane in a landscape approximately 270cm high, 270cm wide Provenance: Private Collection, Berkshire Condition Report: With wear, marks, repairs and sun fading as per age, handling, use, and cleaning. Probably a large section from a larger example- slightly reduced. Border showing cut and join areas indicating it is associated. Numerous areas of stitch repairs- fairly modern backing.
