A George II mahogany side chair, circa 1750, the carved toprail above a decorative pierced splat, tapestry seat, and on cabriole legs with carved knees and terminating on claw and ball feet Please refer to The Country Life Picture Library, image number 536728 for an image of this chair siturated in the drawing room at High Head Castle in 1921. Originally a medieval tower, the castle which was enlarged in 1550 and remodelled in 1748, was largely destryoed by fire in 1956. Provenance: By family descent from John Waller Hills, who owned High Head John Waller Hills PC DCL (1867 - 24 December 1938) was a British Conservative politician. The second son of Herbert Augustus and Anna Hills of High Head Castle, Cumberland, Hills was educated at Eton and Balliol College, Oxford. During World War I he served as a Captain in the 4th Battalion of the Durham Light Infantry. He was promoted to the rank of Major in October 1915 and Acting Lieutenant-Colonel of the 20th Battalion in July 1916. He was wounded in September 1916, and mentioned in dispatches.
