Ca. AD 1400-1500.A seemingly complete copper alloy statuette of medieval date. The statuette is in the form of an upright seated lion sejant with incised features including almond-shaped eyes and upward curved mouth. The mane is represented by wavering lines around the head and shoulders of the lion. The legs and feet are also picked out using incised detail. The base of the statuette is slightly curved inhibiting it from being freestanding. The metal is a mid-brownish-green colour and is worn. The form of the lion is very similar to that of KENT-23BA75, a lion-shaped candlestick foot suggesting a contemporary date, and possible similar function, for this object. The fitting may have been lost to old breaks and obscured by wear. Size: 45mm x 20mm; Weight: 41g Provenance: Property of a London ancient art gallery. PAS number: 3F9514.
