A pair of Edwardian Adam style silver plated candlesticks. CONDITION REPORT: One candlestick when placed on a flat surface rocks slightly from side to side. There is a bend and some splitting to the base of the column and the plating is wearing thin. The other candlestick again when placed on a flat surface rocks slight from side to side and has a slight bend in one corner although this is barely visible. The plating is wearing thin around the base and the top.

A PAIR OF GEORGE II CAST SILVER CANDLESTICKS WILLIAM GRUNDY, LONDON 1759 The shaped square sconces engraved with a crest, reel capitals, knopped stems to shaped square bases with shells to the corners and engraved with armorials 26cm (10 1/4in) high 1463g (47.05 oz)These are the arms and crest of Benjamin INCLEDON (1730-1796) of Pilton House nr Barnstaple, Devon and his wife Margaret NEWTON (died 1803). They were married in 1757. Benjamin INCLEDON was the second son and heir of Robert INCLEDON (1676-1758) former mayor of Barnstaple and builder of Pilton House by his second wife Penelope SANDFORD (died 1738) daughter of John SANDFORD of Minehead, Somerset. The INCLEDON family originate from the estate of INCLEDON in the parish of Braunton, Devon. Benjamin INCLEDON was an antiquarian and genealogist and from 1758 served as Recorder for Barnstaple. Margaret NEWTON was the second daughter and coheir of John NEWTON of Tiverton, Devon, the family having been earlier of Cheshire, Gloucestershire, Norfolk and Somerset.
