Pair of candlesticks. Guatemala, 19th century.Silver.With punches by the silversmith Beleña.Measurements: 28 x 15 cm.Pair of identical silver candlesticks, whose design follows a prototype of European origin characterised by a bulky, slightly disproportionate foot, which crossed borders and reached colonised lands. The foot has a broad profile, with a slightly recessed area that then rises up to the stem. This recessing is intended to collect the wax that falls, which is why it will be a constant feature of the Baroque candlestick. As for the structure of the shaft, we can see knots and truncated and sloping silhouettes decorated with scallops. A similar process can be seen in the lighter.
