English Provincial School, 18th Century A gentleman seated in a chamber, reading and holding a candlestick, with the candle burning a hole in his hat, oil on canvas, unlined, 68 x 57 cm (27 x 22.5in); together with a pencil sketch of the same subject, 23 x 16cm (9 x 6in) Craquelure overall. Dirty. Old stretcher bar marks can be seen from the front. Scuffed frame. Unlined. Small hole upper left. The pencil sketch has dirt under the glass.
IN THE MANNER OF A W N PUGIN; a pair of brass Gothic Revival candlesticks, the knopped columns each set with four clear glass cabochons on foliate engraved spreading circular bases, height of each 23cm (one af), also a further brass candlestick (3).Additional InformationOne with damage and loss to the pierced upper rim, both of these rims have been dented and pressed inwards in places, which will need attention. Further general wear including surface scratches, nick, tarnish etc, with surface scratches and nibbles to some of the cabochons. One of the brass candlesticks has misshapen foot rim. The third candlestick has numerous solder marks and repairs, the base tray is dented and misshapen, heavy wear.
