This beautifully composed still-life painting, signed Jenkins, captures a timeless arrangement of objects that evoke a sense of warmth and nostalgia. The artwork features an old-fashioned candlestick with a melting wax candle resting atop stacked books, symbolizing knowledge and the passage of time. A ceramic jug with pastoral decorations, cherries, and an orange add to the serene composition. The artist's meticulous attention to detail is evident in the realistic textures of the wax, fruit, and the carefully aged books. The muted tones and soft light lend the painting an atmospheric charm, inviting viewers to reflect on the fleeting nature of time and the beauty of everyday objects. While the specific biography of Jenkins remains unclear, the artist demonstrates a mastery of traditional still-life techniques reminiscent of classical European traditions. The use of light and shadow, combined with realistic rendering, suggests an artist deeply rooted in the study of 19th and 20th-century still-life painting. This piece showcases Jenkins' ability to transform ordinary objects into a poetic exploration of form and meaning. Housed in a recessed wooden frame. Signature on lower right.
