The Leeds Pals :- A First World War Trio, to 15-734 PTE.J.L.PREECE. W.YORK:R., comprising 1914-15 Star, British War Medal and Victory Medal, together with a brass cap badge depicting the Leeds Coat of Arms (approximately 2000 were issued and only to the Leeds Pals), and a brass candlestick. This candlestick was taken as a souvenir from the ruins of a church whilst Pte. Preece was taking shelter from heavy German gunfire during the Battle of the Somme in 1916. A British War Medal, to 49630 PTE.C.E.PREECE.W.YORK:R.(brother of the above), together with his two dog tags, a West Yorkshire Regimental cap badge, and a platoon photograph dated 1917. **Both brothers fought at the Battle of the Somme and were fortunate to survive, although one was badly gassed.
