An Italian carved giltwood gesso and polychrome painted candlestick, 18th century, with a spiral lobed and fluted cylindrical tapering column above a figure of a putti, swagged leaves and drapes, turned pillar, on a scroll, flower and leaf carved spreading triangular shape base, later adapted as a table lamp, on a stepped concave sided giltwood and ebonised plinth base,65 cm high.Illustrated
A group of Asian polished bronzed works of art, 19th/20th century, comprising; a tall Chinese slender lobed ovoid vase, four character seal mark, 32cm high, a Chinese lobed double gourd vase, signed, 28cm high, a small Chinese two handled censer and cover, 10cm high, a circular box and pierced cover, 12.5cm diameter, a toy horse,15cm high, a Japanese stork and tortoise pricket candlestick, 34cm high, together with a lacquer rectangular box and cover and two wood stands (qty).
A Victorian silver claret jug mount, Heath & Middleton, London 1890, with 'c' scroll handle, the flush hinged cover engraved with a crest, an Edwardian oval silver mustard pot, Birmingham 1905, the sides shell and leafy scroll pierced and embossed, blue glass liner, silver mustard and salt spoons, a silver trumpet shape flower vase, Sheffield 1916, with panelled sides, loaded, a Victorian silver candlestick nozzle, also the handle of a rolled gold propelling pencil and a gilt metal seal (8).
A pair of George II brass candlesticks by George Grove, each with a knopped stem and a domed base, the underside with a twist-up ejection mechanism, with a butterfly handle and stamped 'GEO. GROVE', 18.5cm high. (2) Provenance: The estate of the late John F. Braund. George Grove was active between 1748-1768 and was based in Birmingham. See Rupert Gentle and Rachael Field, Domestic Metalware 1640-1820, p.147, pl.84-85 for similar candlesticks by Grove.
