Early 20th c. fishing themed candlestick. Marked D2312.Depicts fisherman inspired by THE COMPLEAT ANGLER by Isaac (Izaak) Walton, first published in 1653. This candlestick features two fishermen on the shaft underneath a willow tree border. Opening for the candle is ~1.25"W. Signed by the artist in the glaze. Doulton backstamp on bottom. Incised on black Bakelite handset STROMBERG CARLSON TELEPHONE MFG. CO. G-BB. Original brass candlestick shaft with black paint worn off in many areas by the passage of decades. Original patina. Incised on back of working adjustable chrome transmitter MFD. BY STROMBERG-CARLSON TEL. MFG. CO. ~ ROCHESTER N.Y. U.S.A. Red letters RB painted to base. This looks to be an example of what was called the Kansas City phone because print ads for this model were set in Kansas City. Most of the plating is in fair to good condition, there is some light pitting and the original patina. Formed in 1894, Stromberg-Carlson was an electronics manufacturer and one of the five U.S. companies that controlled the supply of telephone equipment until after World War II. A Cantagalli Maiolica faience candlestick, modelled with a griffin, on square base, 33cm high, with a continenental faience Art nouveau ewer, 21.5cm (2) CONDITION REPORT: The candlestick with various small chips to the griffin's neck, ear, wings and shield piece. Chips and nibbles to the glaze around the bottom edge of the base, most noticeably at the back right hand corner. The jug heavily crazed, but with no noticeable chips.
