By Ndidi Ekubia, a modern Britannia silver 'Flamingo' candlestick, London 2007, of stylised abstract form, textured decoration, height 14cm, approx. weight 7.9oz. Provenance: A Private Collection.Ndidi Ekubia was born in 1973, graduated from the University of Wolverhampton in 1995, and received her Master’s degree in silversmithing and jewellery from the Royal College of Art in 1998. She specialises in hand-hammering, hand-raising and chasing silver artefacts, and many pieces of her work show her skill at creating organic forms. She likes her pieces to be functional rather than purely decorative, and particularly enjoys working with the higher standard of Britannia silver. She has described her aim as creating visually stimulating yet functional silverware. She was a regular exhibitor at the annual Goldsmiths’ Fair from 2005 to 2014, and has received many commissions including ones for City Livery Companies and other institutions. Ndidi was awarded an MBE for services to silversmithing in 2017.
A Victorian novelty gilt metal combination pillar box,by P & F Schafer, 22 Piccadilly, London circa 1880,pillar post box form, a stamp compartment to the hinged enamel top, the hinged top reveals a candlestick with a spring interior base, the front opens to reveal a swivelling candlestick and a card compartment, to the interior side of the door is a matchstick slot and striker, the base swings open to reveal an inkwell, height 17.3cm. Provenance: A Private Collection.
