Wilson Hepple (1854-1937)Two tabby kittens playing on a desk with inkstand, a candlestick and a wax sealed letterSigned and dated 1915, watercolour, 25cm by 36cmThere is a low-level convex undulation to the middle right side of the paper. No tears or creases. There is a line of rubbing and transfer of gesso and gold from contact with the slip, mostly along the bottom edge. There is minor micro-cracking to some of the glossy dark low-lights such as the candle wick, the kitten's eyes and touches in the fur, and one tiny pinpoint loss to the ear of the lower kitten. There has been some fading of the colours, evidenced by a line of brighter, more vivid paint just visible at the edge.

The base numbered '31'. There is some overall surface scratching and wear, consistent with age and use.
A George III Silver Chamber-Candlestick, by William Cafe, London, 1763 the base shaped circular and on three stepped scroll feet, with foliage-cast loop handle, the tapering socket with detachable nozzle and conical extinguisher, the base engraved with a coat-of-arms, the nozzle and extinguisher engraved with a crest18cm wide over handle, 14oz, 435grFully marked on base and extinguisher. The nozzle further part marked. There is some wear to the marks overall, particularly to those on the nozzle and extinguisher, some of which are only partly visible. There is some overall surface scratching and wear, consistent with age and use. The wear is noticeable as a softening to the high points and engraving.
