The circular flat flange with maker's mark, possibly 'TB', the slender stem with narrow mid-fillet, the ball-knop with pronounced mid-fillet and gadrooned decoration, the spreading circular base with lenticular beaded rim, and square cut-corners, height 15cm, diameter 5.5cm Provenance: Former R. Bangs, The Lear Collection: A Study of Copper-Alloy Socket Candlesticks, A.D. 200 - 1700 (1995), p. 142, Cat. 115. In Old Domestic Base-Metal Candlesticks (1978), R. F. Michaelis wrote about the ball-knop trumpet-based candlestick (a type more commonly found in pewter) as 'a late, and abortive, attempt at a departure from the drip-tray proper, the hollow 'ball-knop' obviously serving a very useful function as a grip for lifting or carrying the piece, but almost completely useless as a hindrance to falling candle-grease' (p. 83). A FRENCH MINIATURE LOUIS XVI STYLE GILT BRASS MOUNTED CARARA MARBLE MANTEL CLOCK GARNITURERETAILED BY SIR JOHN BENNETT LIMITED, LONDON, CIRCA 1900The circular eight-day single going barrel movement with platform lever escapement regulated by sprung monometallic balance vertically planted on the backplate numbered 1421 to upper left and stamped MADE IN FRANCE to lower margin, the 2.125 inch circular convex white enamel dial inscribed SIR JOHN BENNETT LTD, LONDON to centre within concentric repeating floral swags framing the vertically aligned Arabic hour numerals, with Arabic fifteen minutes to the outer minute track and scroll pierced gilt brass hands set behind a crisply moulded hinged cast gilt brass convex bevel-glazed bezel, the rectangular plinth-form case with central gilt foliate bud finial to the stepped cavetto moulded upstand over front applied with rosettes to upper angles over floral swag apron mount, the sides with oval leafy rosettes, on cavetto moulded skirt base applied with further gilt ribbon-tied mount to front; the side pieces formed as dwarf candlesticks with gilt brass spiral fluted leaf cast sconces over fluted column pedestals set on gilt bead decorated square bases, (3).The clock 21cm (8.25ins) high, 11.5cm (4.5ins) wide, 6.5cm (2.5ins) deep; the candlesticks 11cm (4.25ins) high, 6cm (2.375ins) square. The firm of watchmakers and retailers of luxury goods, Sir John Bennett Limited, was established by John Bennett at 65 Cheapside, London in 1846. Sir John Bennett was a colourful character who became involved in machinations of the City of London Corporation serving as 'Sheriff of London and Middlesex' in 1871 and 'Lord Lieutenant of London' in 1872. He died in 1897 leaving the business in the hands of his successors trading as 'Sir John Bennett Limited', which continued well into the 20th century. Condition Report: Movement is in relatively clean working condition and appears all-original. The dial appears free from visible damage. The case has some light edge wear/chipping to the marble and a few spots of slight discolouration but is free from visible cracks; the base has probably been re-set, mounts are in fine condition. One candlestick has a noticeable chip to the top of one of the corners at the base and well as a re-attached chip to the lower corner to the other side (not particularly noticeable) otherwise faults are limited to very slight wear/edge chipping.Garniture is complete with a winding key. Condition Report Disclaimer

The lot comprising a circa 1770 facet cut taper candlestick on bubble control stem over domed petal shaped foot, a candlestick with Silesian stem flanked by bubble control knops over domed faceted foot, two similar facet cut candlesticks with bulbous twin knopped stems over domed foot, a circa 1750 moulded glass candlestick with bubble control base over moulded stem and pewter collar, and a facet cut pillar candlestick holder with diamond cut stem on domed foot. The lot to comprise a near pair of boat shaped salts from circa late 18th century circa 1790, each with star cut design to either end and on lozenge base, a near pair of upright salts with diamond cut design and star base, circa 1800, and a cut glass candlestick holder with urn shaped diamond cut top, fan cut bulbous stem atop facet cut circular to square stepped plinth base. A pair of late Victorian - early 20th century brass ecclesiastical church floor candle holders / prickets. Each candlestick having a circular dish over a central column (dents to the circuital rim), raised stepped circular foot. Each measuring approx. 75cm tall x 23cm in diameter. Provenance - part of a collection from Netheravon House, in Netheravon, Wiltshire. The house was built after 1734 by Henry Somerset, 3rd Duke of Beaufort, on a commanding part of the chalk bluff that overlooks the Avon Valley, to the south of the 11th-century village church and close to where a Roman villa stood. The grounds were laid out by the landscape architect and astronomer Thomas Wright and published in Universal Architecture in 1755 and 1758.

A pair of 19th century Victorian brass floor standing prickets, likely ecclesiastical in nature. Each pricket featuring classical urn top for pillar candlestick, mounted on a Doric column, finishing atop urn on triangular scrolled base. The base featuring portrait depictions of the Virgin Mary. All atop three acanthus feet. Each pricket measuring 67cm tall, 20cm wide at base.
