WALKER & HALL; a George V hallmarked silver candelabrum with entwined twin branches on shaped oval tapering stem and spreading loaded base, convertible to a candlestick, Birmingham 1919, inscribed 'Presented to James Knowles, Esq by the Fellow Traders at Manchester on the occasion of his marriage, June 2nd 1919', span 34cm, weighable silver approx 16.7ozt.
A Silver chatelaine perfume flask, rectangular with screw on ball cover and suspension loops, chased with foliate scrolls about a circular vacant reserve; and a modern white metal mounted bottle set with faux pearls, 8cm and smaller; a miniature silver plated elephant figure; a miniature silver plated candlestick; and a gilt metal pill box with enamelled crest above Skegness (5)
ALMOST CERTAINLY THAT OF MAJOR WALTER CLOPTON WINGFIELD an 1847 Pattern 'Albert' helmet, with gilt-brass skull and fittings. To the front a QVC above an ornate cartouche, flanked with sprays of oak and laurel leaves, and mounted with a white metal star, bearing a gilt strap inscribed with the regimental title with VR cypher in the centre. Foliate decoration to the peaks. A "candlestick" plume socket with acanthus base, containing a black horsehair plume. Burnished gilt chin-chain lined with black velvet, with rose finials. Shaped internal headband of red leather, bearing initials (indistinct), with silk lining above. The skull with minor dents and some rubbing to the gilt; the bayleaf spray with one leaf defective; plume not original.
A pair of Louis XV ormolu candlesticks, in the manner of examples by the Slodtz brothers, circa 1770, both foliate and rocaille cast overall, the twisted triform inverted baluster stems with acanthus leaves above guilloche work, on conforming spreading foliate cast bases, 25cm high Provenance: By family repute, these candlesticks were once owned by Isambard Kingdom Brunel Catalogue note: These candlesticks bear a strong similarity to a pair held at the Wallace Collection (number F76), which are described there as being in the style associated with the Brothers Slodtz, the design bearing 'a general resemblance to a pen-and-ink drawing for a candlestick by one of the brothers Slodtz, which is now in the Bibliotheque Nationale, Paris.' A French gilt metal mounted circular porcelain dish, in Sevres style, circa 1880, painted with a cherub, the beaded and leaf scroll frame surmounted by four birds, 18cm wide, and a similar style and period candlestick, of leaf form, the enamelled egg shape dish painted with flowers, 15.5cm wide (2).
