Akinlabi (Akin) Fakeye (Nigerian, Yoruba b.1936) A good associated pair of figure carvings, one an Oba presented on horseback with musket, blade and pipe, the other his wife, presented with a pestle and mortar, carrying a child at her back, the two figures with matching facial scarification, each signed ‘AKINFAKEYE’ to undersides, 61cm high. Purchased by parents of current vendor while living in Ibadan, Nigeria in the 1970s.

AMERICAN SCHOOL (19TH CENTURY) PORTRAIT OF A GENTLEMAN HOLDING A PIPE Oil on canvas 75 x 62.5cm (29½ x 24½ in.)Provenance: Direct from the Cluysenaar family estate, thence by descent Please note measurements do not include the frame unless otherwise stated. Condition Report: The canvas presents a thick craquelure across the whole surface and a thick varnish. Scattered across there are various small losses of paint, mostly caused by the cracking of the surface. The canvas has visible creases in many areas.
