A Third Quarter 18th Century Ivory Fan, the sticks pierced and the upper guards carved with flowers, this section painted in soft blue, pink and green and backed with cerise foil. The lower gorge sticks are painted with delicate pink flowers, almost certainly at a later date. The double paper leaf has several panels. The largest showing a shepherdess accompanied by a lady holding a fan, a small boy playing a pipe to the right. Elsewhere, two vignettes are painted with cherubs holding flaming torches aloft whilst seated on clouds, and to the far sides of the leaf are courting couples. The verso has the air of an earlier fan, with exquisitely detailed flower posies, painted with auriculas, parrot tulips, roses, Turk's cap lilies, peonies and foliage, insects and butterflies arriving for the pollen. Contained in a silk fan sleeve woven with flowers and embroidered with sequins, with drawstring. Guard length 11.5 inches or 29cm (2) Purchased from Christie's SK on 9th July 1985 in a sale of fans entitled ''Property of a lady''. A Good Pair of 19th Century Percussion Target/Duelling Pistols by Strowse of Brompton, near Medway, Kent, each with 25cm octagonal brown twist steel barrel, the top flat stamped BROMPTON, with foliate engraved breech and tang, foliate engraved dolphin hammer and signed back action lock plate, walnut half stock with German silver fore-end tip, steel ramrod pipe, trigger guard with pineapple finial, chequered bag butt and inset escutcheon, with wood ramrod, one with brass powder measure, the other unscrewing to reveal a worm screw, 37cm, contained in an oak case, the green baize lined interior with a later retailer's label to inner cover, the base fitted with accessories of brass and leather combination flask, nipple key, turn-screw, mallet and cleaning rod, wad punch, bullet mould, cap tin, oil flask and lead bullets. 1 - Action works, holds at full and half cock. Some pitting/dirt to bore. Minor bruising to stock with a fine crack leading from ramrod pipe tang towards trigger guard finial. 2 - Action works, holds at full and half cock. Some pitting/dirt to bore. Minor bruising to stock, with a good repair to right fore-end along barrel. Ramrod pipe has a small scale type crack to one side. Some chips to case, generally in good condition.
An Early 19th Century British East India Company Flintlock Cavalry Pistol by John Manton, London, .650 calibre, the 22.5cm russet steel barrel engraved MANTON and dated 1802, stamped TA, with London proof marks, double struck with crowned 4 and with East India Company cypher, the lock plate signed MANTON with crowned 2, the tail with East India Company cypher and dated 1802, walnut full stock with brass ramrod pipe, trigger guard engraved A/62, side plate and butt cap, the left side stamped TA, the wood ramrod with screw-off steel powder measure, 38cm **Provenance:- W. Keith Neal and D.H.L. Black ''The Mantons Gunmakers'', 1967, page 80 (catalogued as then owned by A.Theodore Baylis). Action works, holds at full and half cock. Bore pitted, with further pitting to barrel at the muzzle. Right fore-end tip has a chip and sliver of wood missing along the barrel. Minor bruising to stock.
A George V 1897 Pattern Infantry Officer's Sword, the 82.5cm etched, single edge, fullered blade bearing maker's mark, ''Pipe & McGill, Maiden Lane, Bedford, W.C.'', the steel hilt pierced and engraved with royal cypher, wire bound fish skin grip, leather-covered scabbard; and another, Victorian example, with piquet weight blade, signed, ''Humphrey & Crook, London'', the black-painted steel scabbard with ring suspension (2). First sword - Blade with very light rusting. Scabbard with some scuffing to leather. Otherwise good. Second sword - Blade with light rusting. Hilt similar. Fishskin grip badly worn and with some sections lacking. Wire binding incomplete. Scabbard with large dent to one side.

An exceptionally fine Japanese carved ivory okimono, Meiji Period (1868-1912), carved as an elderly man smoking a pipe whilst wearing a characterful mask on his head and a drum to his side, he holds rope with a monkey clambering up it and a toad trying to catch the monkey's foot, the base with two character mark in red and additional floral engraving, 30cm high, the overall condition is very good with some minor cracking to base, commensurate with age (1)
