Retains most of its original polish and etched matt ground to the blade and with all of its original gilt and matt gilt finish. Contemporary repair to scabbard leather above the chape.

J. Gairdner CB 14th and 16th Bengal N.I. As a junior officer William John Gairdner served with the Native Infantry in operations in the Oudh during 1813 and 1814 - Rewah and Etah, Nepal War and Bareilly during 1816, The Third Mahrattan War, First Burma War, Gwalior Operations and the First Sikh War.
