J.F.P Camm marquetry portrait, depicting a young Flemish girl, signed and dated 1938, approx 19 w x 24.5 cms, framed. This lot includes two treen collection boxes, an oak cased dominoes set, two rosewood and brass John Raybone & Sons levels, Flint-case miniature camera table lighter and a fine miniature Meerschaum pipe holder in the form of a feminine hand with amber mouthpiece together with three bakelite napkin rings.

A late 19th Century Japanese sectional ivory figure group of a man and two children, fixed to an oval carved wood base. The man and one child seated on a low table, the man with a pipe in one hand, a table cabinet, pouch and other items dividing him from the child. The second child standing beside the table on a tree stump and blowing a now damaged horn or shell, the base with a pair of sandals, red signature tablet to one end of the table, 18.5cms max. at base, 16cms max. high.

An early creamware Toby jug of Collier type c.1790, probably Neale & Co., seated with a foaming jug of ale and with a long-stemmed clay pipe clenched between his teeth, his face coal-blackened, the chamfered base traditionally moulded with a continuous band of flowerheads, small losses, 24.5cm. Cf. Desmond Eyles, Good Sir Toby, p.43 for a similar example.

Archive of correspondence to Newton & Gordon wine merchants in Madeira, 1759. Newton & Gordon [now Cossart Gordon] is the oldest company in the Madeira wine trade. Madeira was an important wine in the history of the United States and was used to toast the Declaration of Independence. To include a letter from James Christie, Maryland, to Thomas Newton, New York, 18 November 1759, arranging the shipping of his 31 pipes of wine from Newton & Gordon; letter from Alexander Johnston, London, to Newton & Gordon, Madeira, 11 August 1759, arranging a delivery of wine to Mr Halliday in Antigua, recommending Captain Culler, and instructing them to show Theodolphus Daubuz 'all the civility in your power' as he is 'a man of considerable consequence'; letter from Alexander Munro, Kingston, Jamaica, to Newton & Gordon, Madeira, 1 June 1759, describing his current position, 'I have made a most successful Voyage here & have the vanity to think that I have done greater things than any One who ever came to this Island in my Situation & believe you will be of the same opinion when I tell you that I have been only seven weeks arrived here, and have got my Ship loaded & ready to Sail with the first Convoy from this Island, by Her I have Remitted upwards of Five Thousand Pounds Sterling, which will discharge all my Engagements at Home, & you know I am always very happy when I can pay my Debts.'; letter from Andrew Ramsay, Glasgow, to Newton & Gordon, Madeira, 24 September 1759, ordering 'four pipes best New York & 4 pipes best London Wines' for Ramsay & Dougall, to be sent on 'the first ship for Norfolk Virginia'; letter from Alexander Johnston, London, to Newton & Gordon, Madeira, 6 October 1759, concerning various orders and the requirements for shipping; letter from Parminter Montgmery, Lisbon, to Newton & Gordon, Madeira, 28 April 1759, relating to Seven Years' War, 'they are continually picking up French frigates & privateers in the Channel, & lately a 64 gun Ship Le Comte de St Florentin'; letter from Thomas Doughty, New York, to Newton & Gordon, Madeira, 19 February 1759, ordering 'a pipe of the best wine'; letter from Abraham Duryce, New York, 17 February 1759, relating to an order; letter from John Provoost, New York, 21 August 1759, relating to an order, 'This in haste via Newfoundland', and others similar. A group of three Chinese opium pipes, the largest with white blossom on black enamels decoration, 7 by 3.5 by 28cm high, another with engraved white metal decoration and Chinese characters to a wax seal and to its base, 7 by 3.5 by 25cm high, a cylindrical bone pipe its reserves decorated with figures and and oriental characters, with a further three character script to its base, 3.5 by 5 by 9cm.
