A GOOD QUALITY JAPANESE MEIJI PERIOD STAGHORN PIPE CASE, containing a bamboo and silver-metal pipe, the case finely carved in shallow relief with two sages, one of whom blows a conch shell, a blank mother-of-pearl rectangular reserve inlaid to the reverse, together with an unusual coppered bronze and carved ivory manju netsuke in the form of a toad on an open lotus leaf, and a fine quality ivory ojime carved with geese, the pipe case approx. 8in long when fully closed, the netsuke 1.8in wide at widest point.
