An Ernst Plank tinplate horse drawn fire engine, with original paintwork (in rusty condition), the vertical spirit fired boiler (damaged sight glass), burner present, steam supply pipe and control to vertical oscillating single cylinder live steam engine with link to pump (some nozzles and fittings are present), 35cm long, 15cm wide, overall 31cm high.
A fine exhibition 1/32 scale model of the live steam tug ‘Englishman’, scratch built from the builder’s drawings by the award winning builder Mr C. Putt of Guildford, this well detailed model comes with a gas fired copper Scotch type boiler of dry-back design by K.N. Harris, having fittings including pressure gauge, feedwater preheater, burner and gas regulator, associated pipework, two servers, aluminium funnel, exhaust tail pipe and safety valve tail pipe, powered by a live steam driven Stuart Turner D10 vertical twin simple engine to the design by Malcolm Beak, with reversing valve gear, boiler feed pump, displacement lubricator, boiler pressure modulated gas regulator, the hull of traditional ‘plate on frame’ construction with sycamore veneer overlays, the rudder, stern frame, stem plate and keel of 3/8 inch by 1/16 inch brass strip, other fittings include, funnel, ship’s boats, masts and yards, anchor, chain, propeller and propeller shaft, flags, rigging blocks, lifebelts and a full radio control system, 167cm long, 36cm wide, 85cm high; together with documented history and build records. Boiler History: Southern Federation of Model Engineering Societies boiler test records. Boiler ID number MB.03.09. Test pressure 120 psi. Working pressure 60 psi. Certificate of hydraulic test No.SF 104185. Examination certificate of a pressure test No.C 160672, issued and signed by Guildford M.E.S. and dated 22nd May 2014. Hydraulic test valid until 15th May 2017. Steam test valid until 21st May 2015. Working pressure 60psi. Note: Ocean rescue steam tug ‘Englishman’ was owned and operated by United Towing Co. Limited, Hull between 1947 and 1962.
