A rare late 17th/early 18th Century Austrian Flintlock Holster Pistol by Georg Keiser, Vienna, circa 1700 with tapering sighted barrel formed in three stages, the signed rounded lock engraved with scrolls and an open mouthed mask (the barrel and lock with signs of oxidisation and areas of light pitting), highly figured and patinated walnut stock finely carved with delicate moulding's and foliage behind the rear ramrod pipe and about the tang, moulded and engraved trigger guard with foliate terminal, with single wooden ramrod, 29.5cm barrel, Georg Keiser has been described as the most famous of all Vienna Gun Makers. He was born in Eger, son of Hans Keiser the Gun Maker, in 1647 and is recorded in Vienna 93 years later in 1740. He was employed by the Imperial Court for 50 years.
