A homemade diving helmet:, made from a 5 gallon steel drum, air inlet pipe under the window, and another which splits in two at the back, the one at the front to keep the faceplate clear the other two of unknown use, crude construction but fitted with a filter, 57.5cm high. * Notes- as Anthony Pardoe remarks, Was it used as a diving helmet? No sign of weights or how they were fixed, but it would need a lot of weight to sink this drum. Many theories will be put forward, but we shall probably never know the true answer. * see page 13, vol 1, 'Diving Helmets and Equipment Through The Ages'.
An un-named copper and brass diving helmet:, constructed in three sections with circular side and front windows, stamped 'X396B' to the rim of the front drop down window, rear air intake, interior air channel and elongated corselet, small vertical pipe to rear, 58cm high * Anthony Pardoe notes -'... the most intriguing part of this helmet is the small pipe leading into the back neck of the corselet. It is too small a diameter for an air pipe, but the correct size for an oxygen supply' see pages 242-243, vol 1, 'Diving Helmets and Equipment Through The Ages'.
A 12-bolt diving helmet with corselet air intake by A J Morse & Son, Boston:, number '1101' (matching), the circular front window and oval side windows with guards, lashing eyes and side hooks, side outlet with head button, the corselet with rear air inlet and two pipe holders to the front, maker's plate as per title to breastplate, front handing posts and brass brails, 45cm high. *Anthony Pardoe notes-'... the most distinguishable feature is the air inlet pipe going into the ring of the corselet at the back. The air is channelled inside the ring to a front cut-out, which diverts the air upwards to keep the front window clear. It appears that this was not completely satisfactory as the air inlet has been changed back to the normal design, entering on the back of the head with air channels inside to keep all the windows clear. Most helmets of this pattern have been converted as described, but the old system being left in place makes them more interesting to collectors. * see pages 120-121, vol 1, 'Diving Helmets and Equipment Through The Ages'.

The present magnificent Art Deco instrument is one of the total of 261 that the company built at its workshops in Chiswick and subsequently at a purpose-built factory at North Acton, London. They were installed in cinemas and theatres throughout the British Isles. In the 1930s the cost was approximately £3,000, representing a major investment but one which was regarded as essential in the era of the silent films where it replaced an orchestra in the pit. It also continued to play an important role with the advent of the talkies where the organist entertained the audience between features. ++This organ was acquired by the father of the present vendor and has been stored for 40 years in a dry barn. Whilst we make no warranty as to its completeness there are several thousand components and although dusty these appear to be in reasonably good condition. Many of the smaller pieces have been left undisturbed, stacked in six wooden crates and still wrapped in newspaper printed in 1972. Some of the decorative glass is missing or damaged and the gold painted console has been affected by woodworm whilst in storage. The purchaser will be required to remove the lot within 14 days of the Sale.
