CHRISTIAN HIADZI, SURVIVAL laser print on 250gsm recycled paper attached to card album cover, unique hand finish with acrylic, signed31cm x 31cmChristian Hiadzi’s arresting figurative works explore emotional tension between representational portraiture and the beauty of unsettling abstract portraiture caught within the ordinary. Christian Hiadzi is a Ghanaian-British self thought artist, born in Ghana where he spent part of his formative years before moving to London, England where he lives and work. He has been making art since the age of 8, and as a professionally trained architect, he sees a strong interrelationship between both practices. Art and architecture to him, are the yin and yang that helps him to keep a balance life. At the core of his practice is the passion and drive to create work that in itself, becomes a catalyst to challenge and enhance the viewer’s imagination. He considers himself the conveyor, the vehicle through which the imagination of the viewer is pushed beyond the obvious. His emotions are expressed through his work, and he sees himself in every work that he creates. What is a painting, if it cannot move you emotionally or challenge your imagination, he asks. HOLLYHOCK, A-SIDE : PJ HARVEY (FROM THE ALBUM 'DRY') spray paint and lino print on card album cover, signed31cm x 31cm HollyHock is the alias of Mirjam Wagensveld (1975), a printmaker who lives and works in Rotterdam, The Netherlands. The 'femme fatale' is often a theme in her work. She mainly makes colorful portraits of women, who often come across as somewhat mysterious; you don't know what they think. Her art is made using different (mixed) techniques: with the stencil technique and with screen printing. Both are completely different techniques and it becomes even more fun when you combine these techniques. She makes her work in small and limited editions. The alias 'HollyHock' is inspired by Alcea rosea, a flower which grows very well in an urban environment: the colorful flowers in urban environments like Rotterdam and Amsterdam are similar to the appearance of colorful streetart in urban environments, and so the alias HollyHock was found. JAKE FRANCIS, GLOSS (2023) digital print on card album cover, edition of 1231cm x 31cmThrough cynicism and belligerent play, Jake Francis embodies the spirit of a snake oil salesman. Begrudging the role of ‘artist’ and it’s institutions, Jake inevitably relies on it’s cliches and tropes to make work and progress through its gilded halls - acutely aware of the hypocrisies associated in the process. By toying with preconceived structures, the artist attempts to reconvene personal, social, and trivial issue with simultaneous wit and intentional ignorance. In analysing the stereotypes of art as ‘freedom’ and artist as ‘misunderstood romantic’, Jake takes his resented roles and responsibilities in petty spite and as practice motivator; an endless barrage of humour through disdain, nihilism, and discomfort. ALEX ZANDA, HAARLEM SHAKE 7 layer screen print finished with spray paint on card album cover, signed31cm x 31cm Zanda lives and works in Oxford, a place known as the city of dreaming spires, and they draw inspiration from the history woven into the fabric of the city. He specialises in screen printing as a method of art. The traditional process helps to anchor his art work in a world of fast moving technology. Mixing of paints and the application of them onto paper requires him to have an immediate connection to the printed artwork he makes. The process of screen printing is something between a painting and a mechanised task. It gives a quality of finish which is hard to achieve by more modern methods, and in Zanda's case it's a situation where the artists hand has played a significant role. Instagram: zandapic

RAVI ZUPA, A FRIEND three colour screen print, created in 2020, signed28cm x 43cmRavi Zupa considers books the best way to experience art. He has spent decades studying books about the art, mythology, religion, and history of cultures from across geography and time. Entirely self-taught, Zupa looks to works by German Renaissance printmakers, Flemish primitives, abstract expressionists, Japanese woodblock artists, and Mughal painters for inspiration. He also frequently incorporates religious iconography from Europe, Asia, and Pre-Columbian Latin America with revolutionary propaganda from around the world. With a distaste for ironic art or the thoughtless appropriation of culture, he integrates seemingly unrelated images in search of something universal. Zupa does not create any of his art digitally; everything comes from his own hand. Instagram: raviamarzupa

Sherlock is an interdisciplinary artist working in print, painting and sculpture. Her work focuses around the idea of verbatim aural storytelling and reflective nostalgia, focusing on locality, the everyday, and the mundane. She takes recorded familial conversations discussing childhood stories and turns them into a visual language. Her work is not a literal translation of these stories but a romanticised, fantasied, bittersweet look at nostalgia. She also studied BA Hons Fine Art and Theatre at Lancaster University graduating in 2019 focusing on contemporary performance. Instagram: alicesherlockart

BORDALO II, FRAGILE 2023 fine art print on paper, signed and numbered, from an edition of 500. Boradlo spray painted the symbols on every print by hand, making each one unique.60cm x 60cmArtur Bordalo (Lisbon, 1987) uses the artist name Bordalo II, which he chose as a tribute to his grandfather, the painter Real Bordalo, in order to promote a continuity and reinvention of his artistic legacy. His youth took place between the hours spent in the studio of his grandfather Real Bordalo and the adventures around illegal graffiti in the underworld of the city of Lisbon. He attended the Painting course at the Faculty of Fine Arts in Lisbon for eight years, without ever having completed it, but says that these years allowed him to discover sculpture, ceramics, and to experiment with a variety of materials that have distanced him from painting, which had taken him there in the first place. The excessive production and consumption of stuff, which results in the continuous production of “garbage” and consequently in the destruction of the Planet, are the central themes of his production. This “garbage” assumes itself as the unusual and unique raw material that Bordalo uses in the construction of small and large scale pieces that he has spread around the world and that, above all, intend to be the vehicle of a universal manifesto. LUCY BRYANT, CROC acrylic on card album cover, signed31cm x 31cmContemporary artist and graphic designer Haus of Lucy, AKA Lucy Bryant merges classical fine art with satirical elements from contemporary culture for a wry and caustic aesthetic. Working across collage, print and sculpture, Haus Of Lucy’s work is a modern-day take on the Dadaist practice of objet trouvé. Taking ‘found’ original artworks, Haus Of Lucy adds unexpected details: an EasyJet Plane soaring above a pastoral idyll or a hot dog in the hand of a porcelain figurine. Influenced by Pop Art and Punk, the sacrilegious approach to classicism is both rebellious and tongue-in-cheek. But the clash of past and present can be thought provoking too: Haus Of Lucy’s art asks the viewer to question contemporary culture, by placing it in the framework of historical perspective.

Brown started as a print maker, depicting colourful illustrations of mundane objects from his surrounding within the daily life, but gradually evolved to painting and developed a new language of abstraction. While experimenting with different textures, colours and shapes, the artist tries to lose control over the work, resulting in a unique outcome. Brown continues to push the boundaries of his chosen materials, he reuses old paintings, found materials and an assemblage of scrap pieces of collages together to create a chaotic but balanced aesthetic. More than ever is the artist guided by his immediate surroundings, the colours are an expression of his feelings while setting the mood to create an atmosphere. Instagram: davidiainbrown
