Two Large Vintage Aircraft Photographs, a large vintage gelatin silver print of a Soviet Tupolev Tu-144, apparently taken from another aircraft, probably early 1970s, Soviet wetstamp below '62' in blue crayon verso, print 31.5cm 40cm; with a large,vintage, green-toned carbon print of a seaplane c.1935, print 33cm x 47cm Note: The Tu-144 was the world's first commercial supersonic transport aircraft with its prototype's maiden flight from Zhukovsky Airport on 31 December 1968, two months before the British-French Concorde.The Tu-144 first went supersonic on 5 June 1969, four months before Concorde, and on 26 May 1970 became the world's first commercial transport to exceed Mach 2.

Utagawa Kuniyoshi (1797-1861) The Ghosts of the Taira Attack Yoshitsune in Daimotsu Bay, woodblock print, signed Ichiyusai Kuniyoshi ga, artist's seal yoshikiri, published by Enshuya Kikobei, Oban triptych (each sheet 37.4 x 25.5cm.), c.1849 - 51NotesThis work depicts the ghosts of the Taira family exacting revenge upon Minamoto Yoshitsune (1159-89) following their brutal defeat during a historic battle at Daimotsu bay. The haunting ghosts of the Taira clan are silhouetted dramatically against a dark sky as they attack Yoshitsune?s ship and the troops can be seen frantically lowering the boat?s sails as the gigantic waves rise up ominously around them. The noh play Funa Benkei [Benkei in the Boat] recounts this episode, which eventually ends well for Yoshitsune and his men due to Yoshitsune?s faithful retainer, the monk Benkei, who offers prayers to the gods of the sea, causing the angry ghosts to disappear, the storm to calm, allowing the ship to continue on its travels. A Chinese woodblock print album, China, Beijing, Rong Bao Zhai, published 1955, Rongbao Zhai Catalogue of Poems, woodblock prints, ink and colour on paper, 31cm. x 21.5 cm, cloth-bound slipcaseNotes: The Shizhuzhai Jianpu, Ten Bamboo Studio Catalogue of Letter Paper, was first printed in late Ming dynasty and is divided into eight categories. A Chinese publisher, Rongbao Zhai was tasked to reprint the book in the first decades of the 1900s, completing the first edition in 1941. In 1952, there was a second republication of around 300 copies. Another example from the 1952 edition is part of the British Museum collection The Beijing Rongbao Zhai Xin Ji Shi Jian Pu was first published in 1951 and reprinted in 1953, 1955, and 1957.
