* Gillray (James). Fashionable Contrasts; - or - The Duchess’s little shoe yeilding to the Magnitude of the Duke’s Foot, pub. H. Humphry Jan. 24th 1792 [but later edition by H. Bohn, 1847], uncoloured etching, 255 x 355mm. A ‘supressed’ print which was aimed at the sycophancy of the press who had waxed lyrical about the daintiness of the feet of Charlotte Duchess of York. The more unkind might well have retorted that there was little else to commend the Duchess other than her feet. The print simply shows two pairs of feet and ankles quite clearly in the ‘missionary’ position, with the Duke’s feet enlarged and the Duchess’s feet drawn very small. Simple yet devastating in puncturing the pomposity which surrounded the engagement of the Prince of Wales. (1)

* Canada - Baldwin family. Warren Baldwin, Mrs Sullivan, Peter Russell, Mr. Jackson, Robert Baldwin, Admiral Baldwin, Mrs Augustus Baldwin and Hon. Robert Baldwin, a total of thirteen portraits, only Hon. Robert Baldwin taken from life, each 27 x 66 cm, plus two old related typed histories of the Baldwin family, plus some modern and correspondence of related interest. The album would seem to largely relate to the home and family of Henry St. George Baldwin. He was the fourth son of William Augustus Baldwin (1808-1883), who in turn was the fourth son of William Warren Baldwin and the brother of Hon. Robert Baldwin (1804-1858), all descending from Robert Baldwin (1741-1816), who emigrated from Cork in Ireland to Upper Canada in 1778. The Baldwin family network is vast and their influence in the development and history of 19th century Toronto is extensive. The interiors of the house shown in the photo album are believed to be what is now Spadina Museum [Grand Reopening 17th October 2010]. Provenance: By family descent. . (4)
