A late Victorian French carriage clock, the eight-day duration movement having a platform lever escapement and striking the hours and half hours on a bell with push button repeat, the backplate stamped with the maker's initials and serial number 'G.R. 338', the white enamel dial having black Roman numerals, blued steel spade hands and signed by the retailer 'Howell & James Ltd, To The Queen, London', contained in a corniche style case, complete with original numbered key, height 15cm.
Henri Jacot, Paris. A gorge cased French carriage clock, the eight-day duration movement having a platform lever escapement and striking the hours and half hours on a gong with a push repeat, the backplate stamped with the trademark of Henri Jacot and numbered '17119', the white enamel dial having black Roman numerals, Arabic outer numerals, blued steel spade hands, a subsidiary alarm setting dial and having a typical Jacot inner ring, contained in a gorge style case, height 16cm. * For details of Jacot see Lot No. 586.
Henri Lemaille. A late 19th century engraved brass carriage clock, the eight-day duration movement having a platform lever escapement and striking the hours and half hours on a bell, the backplate numbered '2225' with the frontplate stamped 'H.L.' being the initials of the clockmaker Henri Lemaille, the white enamel dial having black Roman numerals and blued steel moon hands, contained in a foliate engraved corniche case, height 17cm. * Henri Lemaille was one of the best of the French Victorian roulant blanc makers supplying movements to a number of the finest clockmakers of the period including Drocourt and Leroy as well as making finished clocks.
Henri Jacot, Paris. A late Victorian 'Oriental' style French carriage clock, the eight-day duration movement having a platform lever escapement and striking the hours and half hours on a gong with push repeat, the inside of the dial plate stamped with the trademark of the maker Henri Jacot, the backplate stamped with the serial number '7288', the white enamel dial having black Roman numerals, blued steel spade hands and typical Jacot inner ring, within a foliate engraved silvered brass mask, contained in a gilded and silvered pillared case in the Oriental style, with original numbered key, height 19cm. * Henri Jacot was one of the most well known and best maker's of carriage clocks in the Victorian period with an address at 31, Rue de Montmorency, Paris. The first Henri Jacot died in 1868 and was succeeded by his nephew also Henri. They won many medals at exhibitions in both Paris and London including the Gold medal in 1900.
