Duverdrey & Bloquel, a French carriage clock with enamelled decoration: the eight-day duration timepiece movement having a silvered platform lever escapement, with the backplate stamped with the lion trademark for Duverdrey & Bloquel of Saint-Nicolas-d'Aliermont, the gilt-brass dial having an ivorine chapter ring with black stylised Arabic numerals and blued steel spade hands, the dial centre with inlaid coloured enamelled decoration, the brass case with serpentine mouldings to the top and base inset with coloured enamelled decoration, with fluted columns, height 14.5cm/12cm (handle up/down). * Biography Duverdrey & Bloquel were founded in 1867 by Albert Villon, in Saint-Nicolas-d'Aliermont, near Dieppe, one of the most prolific towns for the production of carriage clock blanc roulants at this time, with their factory becoming the largest in the area. Villon went on to become mayor of Saint-Nicolas and an important member of the Parisian horological world. On his death in 1910 Joseph Bloquel joined the company which then became Duverdrey & Bloquel, forming a partnership with Paul Duverdry who had become a director of the firm in 1887.
