The dial: looks to be in good condition with no chips or cracks. The movement: when wound the clock ticks and moves, the repeat mechanism also works when pressed, however, there is no guarantee that the movement is fully functioning and we recommend a service with a clock specialist. There is no winding key.

Couaillet Frères, a French brass carriage alarm clock: the eight-day duration timepiece movement having a silvered platform lever escapement and sounding the alarm on a bell, the backplate stamped with the hand setting arrow design as found on clocks by Couaillet Frères and numbered 5027, the white enamel dial having black Roman hour numerals, alarm setting dial and retailer's name F. Rotig, Havre, with decorative blued steel hands, the Corniche case with three-bail handle, height 18cm handle up, 15cm handle down. With travelling box.* Biography Couaillet Frères were one of the most prolific of the carriage clock makers at this period with workshops in the horological town of Saint-Nicolas-d'Aliermont near Dieppe. In 1885 Armand Couaillet was employed by the prominent maker Albert Villon, but in 1892 he and his brothers Denis and Ernest set up their own workshops in the centre of the town as Couaillet frères. Delépine-Barrois, an engraved carriage clock: the eight-day duration movement having a platform lever escapement and striking the hours and half-hours on a bell with push button repeat sounding the last hour at will, the backplate stamped with the hand setting arrow as used by the Delépine family and numbered 829, the white enamel dial having black Roman numerals, blued steel moon hands and with an engraved gilded surround, the engraved Gorge case with swing handle, height 15cms handle up, 13cms handle down.* Biography Delépine-Barrois were a partnership between Ludovic Delépine and his wife Marie Barrois, the step-daughter to the horologist Sauteur of Paris and Saint-Nicolas-d'Aliermont, the horological town where Marie met and married Ludovic Delépine in 1884. The Delépine-Barrois business became one of the finest carriage clock producers of the late-Victorian period before selling the large house and workshops to Couaillet in 1914.
Duverdrey & Bloquel, a brass carriage clock: the eight-day duration movement having a silvered platform lever escapement and striking the hours and half-hours on a gong with a push button repeat sounding the last hour at will, and with alarm, the backplate numbered 792 and with a hand setting arrow as used by the makers Duverdrey & Bloquel of Saint-Nicolas-d'Aliermont, the cream dial having a silvered mask and with black Roman numerals, outer five-minute numerals and decorative blued steel hands, with a subsidiary alarm setting dial, the bow-sided case with swing handle, height 18.5 cm handle up, 15.5cm handle down.* Biography Albert Villon set-up his first carriage clock making workshops in Saint-Nicolas-d'Aliermont in 1867 and by 1889 professed to be making some 20,000 carriage clocks per year. In 1887 Paul Duverdrey joined Villon as a director who in turn was joined by Joseph Bloquel after the death of Villon in 1910, the business becoming Duverdrey & Bloquel.The firm later became the alarm clock making concern Bayard.
A French Victorian walnut cased carriage clock retailed by Thornhill, London: the eight-day duration timepiece movement having a rear-mounted lever escapement with plain steel balance and stamped with the initials WT & Co within an oval for Thornhill, the white enamel dial having black Roman numerals and signed for the retailer W. Thornhill & Co, London, the walnut case with stepped mouldings and brass carrying handle, height 19.5cm, handle up; 17.5cm handle down.

Drocourt, Paris, a small Corniche carriage clock: the eight-day duration movement having a silvered platform lever escapement and striking the hours and half-hours on a gong, the gong block stamped with the initials F.D. for the gong maker Drury, the backplate stamped with the trademark for Drocourt of Paris and numbered 14015, giving a date of manufacture of circa 1877, the white enamel dial having black Roman hour numerals and blued steel moon hands, the brass Corniche case with three-bail handle, height 15cm handle up, 12cm handle down.* Biography Pierre Drocourt started the well-known carriage clock making business at 3 Rue Coutures St-Gervais, Paris in 1853 before moving to 8 Rue Limoges in 1856, with a name change to 28 Rue Debelleyme in 1865. in the form of a carriage clock, each side with a green enamel panel over an engine-turned ground, on four fluted compressed ball feet and with an overhead angular swing handle, the dial with Roman numerals12cm highCondition report: Fully marked underneath. The hinged back and handle each part marked. The marks in general are clear. Stamped on the back with retailers name. This is work and only just legible. There is some overall surface scratching and wear, consistent with age and use. There is a crack to the enamel on either side of the dial. There is some cracking to the dial. The mechanism has not been tested to see if it functions properly. The item has the date letter 'U' as used in London 1895-96.
