Fine English gilt cased carriage clock timepiece, the 2.5" silvered dial with blued steel moon hands and Roman numerals, within a profusely foliate engraved stepped case in the manner of Thomas Cole, with plain gilt back enclosing shuttered winding apertures, the recessed top with circular window aperture and engraved index lever and turned handle, single train spring driven movement with a lever circular platform escapement, stamped `1013` to movement, platform, key and case, `B.` stamped monogram to the case back, 5.5" high; with original T-bar key (a.f)
Pons, a French Victorian gorge carriage clock: the eight-day duration movement with a replaced platform lever escapement and striking the hours and half-hours on a gong, with a push button repeat, the backplate stamped with the trademark of the maker Pons and numbered 247, with an engine-turned mask to the top oval glass, the white enamel dial with black Roman numerals, Arabic five-minute outer numerals and blued steel spade hands, contained in a gorge case with a five-ribbed handle, height 17cm, including handle. *Biography In 1806 the clockmaker Pons was asked by the Minister of the Interior of France to go to the clockmaking town of Saint Nicolas d'Aliermont and revive the industry there, which he did by introducing machinery to manufacture movements rather than being made by hand. He won various exposition medals including silver in 1819 and 1823 and gold in 1834. He was awarded the Legion d'Honneur in recognition of his services to horology and sometime in the mid 1840's retired with his business being taken on by the clockmakers Borome Delépine and Cauchy, who continued the use of the Pons name and who would have been the makers of this particular clock.
Henri Jacot, Paris a gilt-brass carriage clock: the eight-day duration movement striking the hours and half-hours on a gong with push button repeat, the backplate stamped with the Jacot trademark, a parrot on a perch, along with the serial number 9191, with a silvered platform lever escapement, the white enamel dial with black Roman numerals, blued steel spade hands and typical Jacot inner, the gilt-brass corniche case with carrying handle to the top, height 18cm (handle up) 15cm (handle down) * Biography Henri Jacot, born 1796, is first recorded at Rue Montmorency 25, Paris in 1833 working with his brother Julien, before moving along the road to number 31 by 1852 where he died in 1868, the business being taken over by his nephew, and Julien's son, Albert Jacot under the guidance of his father.
