FRENCH SILVER CASED MINIATURE CARRIAGE CLOCK, having circular enamel Roman face, the plain case with scrolled folding loop handle on bun feet, French brass movement with folding, winding tab, 6.5cm high approx. Contained in velvet lined oak box with platform base.(B.P. 24% incl. VAT) CONDITION REPORT: The face is cracked in places, case overall good, minor wear and tear with age, the oak outer case is good with only minor wear.
BRASS DESK CLOCK in the form of a trench mortar with silvered Roman face, on a brass mounted, oak carriage. Face 8cm diameter approx., overall 12 x 17.5cm.(B.P. 24% incl. VAT) CONDITION REPORT: Not able to test how it works, face is discoloured, the brass is tarnished, but it is basically appearing complete.
An early twentieth century French striking and repeating gilt brass carriage clock, retailed by Reid & Sons, with original travel case. CONDITION REPORT: Winds, runs and adjusts. Strikes on the hour and half hour. Tarnishing to case. Dial signature faded. Travel case in rather poor condition. Chip to the corner of the glass on one side panel as well as the back door. Levin and Cie, Paris a Corniche carriage clock: the eight-day duration movement striking the hours and half-hours on a bell with an outside countwheel, the platform lever escapement having an engraved balance cock and plain steel balance, the white enamel dial having black Roman numerals with blued steel moon hands and signed Levin & Cie, Paris, the brass Corniche case with a scroll handle, height 15.5cms (handle up) 14cms (handle down).* Biography Levin is recorded in the Annuaire-Almanach du Commerce, published by Didot-Bottin, Paris as working at Nve-des-Petits-Champs, 5, Paris from at least 1857 until 1860.

Holingue Frères, a French Gorge carriage clock: the eight-day duration movement having a silvered platform lever escapement and striking the hours and half-hours on a bell, with push button repeat of the last hour at will, the backplate stamped with the serial number 5585 with the frontplate stamped with the initials H.L. for the maker Holingue frères, the white enamel dial having black Roman numerals, a subsidiary alarm dial, blued steel moon hands and signed for the retailer G. Taylor & Son, Paris, the gorge case with typical five-bail handle, height 17.5 cms (handle up) 14.5cms (handle down).* Biography Jean-Francois and the younger Louis Holingue were the sons of the carriage clock maker Jean Baptiste and worked in the clockmaking town of Saint-Nicolas-d'Aliermont, near to Dieppe, producing the rough movements for a number of well-known makers including Paul Garnier and Bolviller. With Louis-Albert Holingue, the son and likely successor of Louis, married and settled in Paris with seemingly little interest in returning to the town, the brothers sold their workshops and equipment to Alfred Drocourt in 1875, having supplied Drocourt for a number of years with movements for his own clocks finished in Paris.* Notes Reference Leigh Extence, Pierre and Alfred Drocourt, An Exhibition of Carriage Clocks, Catalogue 2014.
Delépine-Canchy, a French Corniche carriage clock: the eight-day duration movement having a silvered platform lever escapement and striking the hours and half-hours on a bell, the backplate stamped with the serial number 4541 with the hand setting arrow engraved in a style as used by Delepine-Canchy, carriage clock makers of Saint-Nicolas-d'Aliermont, the white enamel dial having black Roman numerals and blued steel moon hands, the Corniche case having a three-bail handle, with the oval top glass etched with a coronet and the inscription R to Courtenay Newton Esq, July 28th 1870, height 17.5 cms (handle up) 14.5cms (handle down).*Biography Delépine-Canchy, being Borome Delépine and his partner Canchy, were carriage clock makers in the clockmaking town of Saint-Nicolas-d'Aliermont and took over the business of the renowned Honoré Pons in the mid-1840s, continuing to use the Pons trademark stamp for a short while. Their workshops were positioned across the road from those of Henri Jacot, to whom they supplied a number of blancs roulants in the early 1870s and with whom there was a family connection. Stevenard à Boulogne, a champlevé enamelled carriage clock: the eight-day duration movement striking the hours and half-hours on a bell, with push repeat of the last hour at will, the platform lever escapement having a plain steel balance with an engraved balance cock as is typical of this maker, the backplate stamped to the lower portion Stevenard, H Ger W cien a Boulogne, some letters missing to read Stevenard, Horloger Mecanicien a Boulogne, the white enamel dial having a repeat of the makers name, black Roman numerals and blued steel moon hands, the early multi-piece case fully engraved with floral decoration, with side panels of engraved brass and two-tone blue inset enamel, height 17cms (handle up) 14.5cms (handle down).* Biography Pierre-Louis Stevenard, born 1801, was not only a clockmaker but a fine maker of automata and moving dolls, often incorporating the most ingenious mechanisms set within clocks. He was considered a master of his craft in France at this time and had an unsurpassed reputation. Between 1833 and 1842 he produced three most important pieces, each incorporating a miniature musician. At the Paris Exposition of 1878, at the age of 77, he showed two automata, The Physician and The Singing Lesson for which he was awarded a bronze medal.
