A late 19th century engraved brass cased repeating alarm carriage clock, with Russian retailer, height 13cm. Dials good; case and engraving good;rear door glass with small chips to one corner; one door screw (needed to secure glass) thread worn and will eventually fail to secure door-glass; backplate numbered 675; has been wound and appears to have kept good time over some 24 hours, although not guaranteed; balance wheel without compensation features, perhaps a replacement; strike and repeat mechanisms working although out of synchronisation by one hour. Alarm not working. Service record unknown. No Russian aspect at all, as originally stated.
A Jacob Willmore gilt brass carriage pedometer, Belgian, circa 1710,signed Jac Willmore A Malines, the rectangular case with hinged lid opening to two silvered dials, the larger measuring on two scales 0-100 and 0-1000, the smaller dial measuring 0-1000 and 0-10,000, with engraved foliate decoration, operating lever projecting from the base, when closed, the case 1 3/4in x 4in x 8 1/2in (4 1/2cm x 10cm x 21cm) Footnotes:Provenance:Private collection. A rare Ralph Gout gilt brass horse-rider's pedometer watch, English, circa 1800,inscribed Bo the Kings letters, Ralph Gout, London, No.221, the watch with finely engraved gilt full plate verge, pierced and engraved balance cock, diamond end stone, silver regulation, with signed dust cap, white enamel dial, signed Ralph Gout London, with 0-100 outer scale and with watch face and two subsidiary dials, 0-10 and 0-100, shaped gilt brass outer case with ornate geometric and leaf scroll decoration, the reverse with hook for saddle mounting, 8 2/3in x 3 1/2in x 1 1/5in (22cm x 9cm x 3cm) Footnotes:Provenance:Trevor Philip & Sons Ltd., London, 1990.Private collection.The watch and clock maker Ralph Gout was working at 6 Norman Street from 1770 to 1800 and at 122 Birchin Lane in 1815. In 1796 he patented a simple pedometer and later a device for measuring the revolution of a carriage wheel.The pedometer was patented by Gout in 1799, patent no. 2351, and the watch movement, verge escapement and chain fusée, was considered robust enough to tolerate considerable jolting. A Continental Art Deco mauve guilloche enamel decorated bedside clock, the brass chapter ring with Arabic numerals, 8.3 cm wide x 8.3 cm deep x 8.3 cm high, together with a circa 1900 French lacquered brass cased carriage clock, the white enamelled dial inscribed "Richard Maillart Boulogne S/Mer", 8 cm wide x 11 cm high (2) CONDITION REPORTS Working but both have been over wound. The carriage clock - the face has moved within the piece and is slightly lopsided. There is some wear to the enamel, particularly to the secondary dial. There is wear on the top where the handle has been down. In need of a clean. Some light scratching, patination, etc. One of the side glasses is cracked. General wear and tear conducive with age and use. Enamelled clock- the enamel is generally OK. The white banding is flaking, coloured and one piece is cracked through. In need of a clean.
