A French Anglaise carriage clock: the eight-day duration movement striking the hours and half-hours on a gong, with push-button repeat an a later platform lever escapement, the backplate stamped with the trademark of the maker E.G. Lamaille, the initials E.G.L within an oval, the white enamel dial with black Roman numerals and blued steel spade hands, height: 19cm (with handle), 16cm (without handle). * E.G. Lamaille were established in Farringdon Road, London before opening workshop premises in Paris. In 1880 Gay, Lamaille & Co secured a patent for improvements to the star wheel within the strikework of a carriage clock.
A French Corniche carriage clock: the eight-day duration movement striking the hours and half-hours on a bell, with a platform cylinder escapement, the backplate stamped with the trademark of the retailer Charles Voisin, the initials CV within a rectangle, the white enamel dial with black Roman numerals and blued steel Brequet moon hands, height: 16cm (with handle), 13cm (without handle). *Biography Charles Voisin was a Parisian retailer who was supplied with various grades of carriage clocks to sell by a number of different makers, including Alfred Drocourt.
