Brough was known for specialising in the subjects so well represented in this group offered here. He exhibited at the Royal Academy and the British Institution " and was also secretary and treasurer of the Royal Society of British Artists. .

A good T.L.S., Harry Houdini, one page, 4to, Arundel Street, Strand, London, 8th May 1911, to Ira Davenport (1839-1911, American Magician), on Houdini`s personal printed stationery featuring his profile portrait. Houdini announces `I don`t think I will show, or tell, Mr. Maskelyne anything at all of the news you have given me; I am going to let him go as far as he wishes and then, if he goes too far, I shall step in and give the public the information which is required.` and continues `It will interest you to know that during my week`s engagement in that historical town of Huddersfield, I had two very important Challenges and, as I brought my own Company to that town, I did an enormous week`s business, in fact, I believe I made the second biggest salary I have made in Great Britain.` Houdini further refers to Davenport`s request for one of Maskelyne`s books, asking if he remembers the name of it, and commenting `I have a book in my library, "Supernatural" or some such name, and if this is the book you want, when I get home I will mail it to you for your perusal, and if I find I have two of them I will make you a present of one.` In concluding the magician asks if there is anything Davenport would like bringing back from England, asking him to let him know before he sails back to America on 14th June. A letter of excellent content and association among three magicians, or perhaps two magicians and a fraud. VG.
