A Japanese inspired aesthetic armchair, having an ebonised and part upholstered frame with horsehair and sprung stuffover seat, all supported upon slender turned tapering legs. 59 cm wide, 95 cm high, 49 cm deep. CONDITION REPORT: The chair is structurally sound with no loose joints. We can see no evidence of any repairs or restoration. There are no missing sections of fretwork but there are some minor fractures, the most noticeable being beneath the seat front rail. There is a fracture across the top of the second step of the front fretwork section and whilst there is no significant loss here there is movement. All legs and stretchers are in good order. There is some rubbing to the ebonised finish particularly around the sharp edges. The upholstery is generally reasonably good with no holes or significant staining. The seat springing is serviceable. There is slight wear to the tops of the upholstered arms. Generally speaking the chair is in good order.
A pair of late Victorian silver candlesticks, maker Thomas Bradbury & Sons, with detachable sconces and decorated with ribbons and swags and with scale decoration to the stepped bases. height 12.5 cm (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: The candlesticks are in reasonably good order. Both sconces detach and sit fairly flat. One sconce has a few minor dents. The candlestick columns are both fairly straight but perhaps slightly off the vertical. The apertures into which the sconces fit are both a little misshapen and one has a small tear to the narrow section of the top of the candlestick just above the top moulded rim and swags. This is only visible when viewed from the side and underneath. A repair would be sensible here. Both columns are in good order with only very minor marks. The candlestick with the slight tear is in good condition all around the base. There are no significant creases or any holes. The hallmarks are fully legible. The second candlestick is dented at one corner and there is a very tiny hole on the corner to the right of the date letter. There are no holes in the scale decoration. The same candlestick has clearly been dropped and in the step between the two scales on the corners there is slight creasing. The hallmark is very clear. The hallmarks on the sconces are very clear and match those on the sides of the base.
