My step-mother joined the WRNS during the war, she worked at one point in Naval Intelligence in London with Ian Fleming, Michael Wilding and even Churchill. In 1939 they knew Blue Peter was going to win the Derby. My step-mother came from a very Edwardian family and was not the type to place a bet but she persuaded her WRNS friends to back Blue Peter. Humphrey, June 13th & June 12th, 1798, a pair of etchings with aquatint, both with contemporary hand-colouring, good margins, both laid on later stiff paper, each approximately 195 x 265 mmQTY: (2)NOTE:BM Satires 9229 & 9229.A pair of caricatures mocking the Irish and the 'Society of United Irishmen'. They depict the Irish volunteers as only one step removed from the perfidious French, but lacking discipline or military finesse. Jim Sherry argues on his website that the caricatures were produced as much to mock the Irish volunteers as to discourage potential British recruits. 'Portaying the participants as essentially Frenchmen makes it easier to think of them as the natural enemies of Britain, not as fellow countrymen. And the contrast between these impoverished and rag-tag soldiers and the British troops familiar to English audiences with their scarlet uniforms and impeccable order and precision would have suggested the overwhelming advantage Britain was likely to have in any upcoming battles'.

JACK DANIEL'S 1954 GOLD MEDAL SERIES | ABV: 43% | Region: Tennessee | Country: USA | Type: Tennessee whiskey | Distillery description | Jack Daniel's is one of the most renowned whiskey brands globally and is synonymous with Tennessee whiskey. The distillery's history dates back to the mid-1800s when founder Jasper Newton "Jack" Daniel took over the distillery at the age of 13 from Reverend Dan Call, with whom he initially learned the craft. Jack Daniel's Distillery was officially established in 1866 in Lynchburg, Tennessee, making it the first registered distillery in the United States. What sets Jack Daniel's whiskey apart from bourbon is the special filtering process known as the Lincoln County Process, which involves filtering the spirit through a thick layer of maple wood charcoal. This unique step imparts a characteristic smoothness and classifies the whiskey as Tennessee whiskey. Afterward, the whiskey matures in handcrafted oak barrels, where it develops a rich flavor profile with notes of caramel, vanilla, and wood. Today, Jack Daniel's Distillery is part of the Brown-Forman Corporation, one of the world's largest beverage companies. Paradoxically, it continues to be produced in Lynchburg, a so-called dry city where the sale of alcohol is officially prohibited. The Jack Daniel's brand has achieved cult status in popular culture, especially due to its close ties to musical genres such as rock and country. Today, it ranks among the best-selling whiskeys in the world. | Bottle description | Jack Daniel's 1954 Gold Medal Series is a special collector's edition released by the Jack Daniel's distillery to celebrate the gold medals the brand has won at international competitions. This particular edition commemorates the success of Jack Daniel's at the World Exhibition in Brussels in 1954, where the whiskey received a prestigious gold medal for its exceptional quality.
