She spent a year as designer of textiles and the Tsindel (The First State Textile Factory), her abstract textiles were designed to be looked at as they were worn, and clothing was specifically tailored to match the needs of the wearer, garments were meticulously constructed to be both exciting to look at and highly practical to wear. In 1924, Stepanova left the Tsindel to become the professor of textile design at the Vkhutemas: The Higher Art and Technical Design Studio, Moscow, where she also pursued her interest in typography and book design as a regular contributor to the magazine LEF (Left Front of the Arts).

DANCING MAENAD WITH A PREY. 16th century21x32x5 mmThe figure is advancing to the right, with a bacchic dance step raising the left foot backwards, holding the thyrsus with the right hand, and a prey with the left. The face is turned to the right with the gaze slightly raised upwards. Her elongated body is covered by a robe with flaps floating in the air, as the ancient graeco-roman models. Around the figure, a frame in relief carved in the white layer of the agate. Interesting work, executed with great art. Minor missing and wear marks.Provenance: U.K private collection
