The MG RV8 was a hugely important step in the 1990's rebirth of MG Cars after more than a decade of only producing saloons and hatchbacks. Since Abingdon's closure in 1980, MG had been reserved for the Metro, Maestro and Montego and, although these cars were worthy, what enthusiasts really wanted was a new MG roadster. In creating the RV8, Rover very cleverly used a combination of off-the-shelf parts, such as Range Rover's V8 engine and British Motor Heritage's MGB bodyshell. So, in this re-incarnation of the MGB, the rubber bumper specification body was taken and modified to accept a new set of beautifully curvaceous outer panels. The 3.9-litre Range Rover EFi V8 engine developed 185bhp and gave the RV8 enough power to crack six seconds for the 0-60mph run. A five-speed LT77 gearbox, derived from the Rover SD1 was used along with a new Salisbury axle. Very significant modifications were made to the suspension and brakes to bring the car up to date. The interior featured leather and burr elm facia and door cappings. Japan proved to be a successful market during the recession of the 1990's and, of the 1,983 units MG RV8's manufactured, 1,581 were sold out there, although many have subsequently come back home to the UK.This is one such car; returning from Japan in 2004. The mileage on its arrival to the UK is unknown, but the first online MoT record from 2006 shows it had covered only 1,768 miles and when our vendor purchased the car in 2009, it had covered just 4,500. Our vendor has thoroughly enjoyed the car during his ownership, taking it to local car shows and says it holds many happy memories for him and his wife, but it is now seeing less frequent use and he feels it is time for someone else to enjoy his MG. The car is in excellent condition, the Woodcote green coachwork gleams and the tan interior shows little sign of ageing. A service booklet was started in 2009 and shows seven services since then, the most recent being in 2022, just 2,000 miles ago. Recent works include a new radiator and new exhaust. The car is supplied to auction with a V5C registration document, MoT test certificate valid until August 1st 2025, a history file, full tonneau cover, miscellaneous spares and owners booklets. Consigned by Fraser Smith IN CURRENT OWNERSHIP FOR 15 YEARSRECORD OF MAINTENANCE SINCE 4500 MILESEXCELLENT EXAMPLE

Lot 733

John Sanderson (20th century), a pair of collage style poster prints each made up of various musicians, album covers, photographs and newspaper headlines, framed and glazed, 93 x 50cm. (2)Pop Memrobilia / Posters – I have worked in Architecture, Art and Design for the last 42 years, and have now retired. My Step Son Adam Day is a Song Writer, Musician, and Lead Singer for originally the Lyrebirds, who performed all over Europe, especially in Manchester, Brighton, Berlin and Prague during 2006 to 2013. In 2014 they changed their name to County Line Runners and were signed up by Universal Records, playing in both Europe and America. They performed at large Festivals in England from the Brixton Arena (Venue of 4000 to 5000 people) to the Hyde Park Festival of over 100000 people. As Adam is very well known as a Song Writer; he wrote many songs for other Pop Artists such as “Florence and the Machine” where he wrote the first 3 Tracks of her Cosmo Album and performed / sung with her on the first track. Adam and his Band, played support band many times for the Kooks, Macabees, Mumford and Sons, and were lined up to play Supporting Band with Neil Young, touring America in 2019, but unfortunately the Covid Epidemic happened and he missed out on that gig. However as Adam was a close friend of Luke, of the “Kooks”, and went drinking “in the early days” with Marcus Mumford of “Mumford and Sons”, as well as Felix and Hugo of the “Macabees” who I used to drink with and who came to my Birthday Party, many years ago; - so as Adam’s Stepfather, I also built up a relationship with a few people in the Music Industry . After the County Line Runners, were signed up with Humming Records ( Bill Ryder Jones ex of “The Coral”) Produced the Hits written and performed by Adam Day of the County Line Runners - “Hard To Find” and “Wide Eyes” and “Plastic Palm Trees”. So throughout all this, as ALL of the Groups had to produce Merchandise to sell at their Concerts; and as they knew I was related to Adam Day, and had an Art and Design background, they would specifically ask me to produce large Collages of various Bands, including the Band within a Mix of Political / Religious and Musical Design, with a lot of “Text and Hidden Meanings” which they loved. So my work has a hidden picture of myself somewhere within it; and was sold at many Music Concerts, which I often attended with Adam and went backstage on many occasions; (which I still have all of my original artwork and have the Copyright). “Once I had been pushing my art work / posters / pop-memorabilia onto a few different publishers / printers in the south including Virgin Records, who had shown an interest; and suddenly I received a really angry / snotty letter from a German Publishing House in Germany, who must have had an Office in England that I was not aware of, and who was complaining that it was totally illegal to show posters / pictures of Adolph Hitler. (Reference to a picture in one of my Posters of Hitler crying blood - tears out of his eyes, in amongst other political / religious / figures and text. I knew then “that I was famous in my own little way”, especially when Hugo of the Macabees got hold of the story, and immediately put up the Framed Poster on the main wall in their London Recording Studios. When they were interviewed in a Documentary, some years ago on Channel 4 Television, I remember seeing it quite clearly. So my work / many different types of Pop Art Memorabilia, can be found all over, even in Perth Australia, so I have been told. So these are not just mere “bog-standard” posters, they all have a story to tell, and through my Stepson, Adam Day, of County Line Runners, I was able to promote them as Merchandise at various music events, which were seen and purchased by both the Public and performers within the Music Industry ( that I had met) from the late 1990’s up to 2023; when I retired and closed the door on my past; for a quiet life in Suffolk.

CINEMATOGRAPHIE LUMIEREFrench Moyenne (30" x 41"); Stone LithoFine+ on Linen; Artwork by Henri Bispot Lumiere, 1896The first public film screening took place in December 1895 at the Salon Indien of the Grand Cafe on Boulevard des Capucines in Paris. This modest event, which lasted about twenty minutes, drew fewer than thirty people but marked the beginning of what would become a major cultural, artistic, and social phenomenon of the 20th century. At Lumiere's screening, a white canvas similar to a bed sheet was used as a screen at one end, with the brother's famous cinematographe set up on a step ladder, surrounded by roughly 100 chairs from the Grand Cafe. The event featured a series of Lumiere's short films, each less than a minute. Audience reactions were mixed; some were skeptical, while others were deeply amazed. The cinematographe quickly became a success; on January 1st and 2nd, 1896, approximately 2,000-2,500 customers paid one franc each to see Lumiere's moving pictures. Posters advertising the screenings were put up around Paris, including this one by H. Brispot, which showed a crowd eager to get into the Salon Indien. This exceedingly rare and early cinema poster, once mounted, has been carefully removed from its surface. Although there are some areas of paper loss on the back, these do not affect the poster's front appearance. It has been professionally linen-backed, requiring minimal touch-up on the front. The poster presents beautifully. The Lumiere brothers, Auguste Marie Louis Nicolas and Louis Jean, were pioneering French inventors and manufacturers of photography equipment. They are most renowned for their development of the Cinematographe motion picture system and the production of short films from 1895 to 1905, establishing them as some of the first filmmakers in history. This lot will be auctioned on Thursday, September 12th. The auction will begin at 9:30am PST and lots are sold sequentially via live auctioneer; tune in to the live streaming broadcast on auction day to follow the pace. Note other lots in the auction may close on September 13th.
