- Extremely rare 5-speed manual and presumed a special order car - Only two recorded keepers from new and showing less than 20,000 miles - Reportedly 'very good to excellent' overall, Biscuit leather and MOT'd till Oct 2016 Any Series III XJ Saloon is a beautifully refined way to travel and the Daimler variant is a step further with its luxuriously appointed interior and legendary ride quality. In nearly all cases these cars are fitted with smooth but power sapping automatic transmissions, but to have direct control of the fuel injected engine's performance through the 5-Speed manual gearbox fitted to this example must surely make it a fantastic driving experience. This Daimler Sovereign 4.2 is described by the vendor as being in 'very good to excellent' overall condition, and this coupled with its rare gearbox choice and wonderfully period colour combination must make the car a special find for collectors of the Jaguar and Daimler marques. As well as the high level of standard Daimler features, this Sovereign also boasts an electric sunroof and electric height adjustment to the front seats. A copy of an October 1989 issued registration document on file shows that this 4.2 was sold new to a Mr Jepson of Whickham, near Newcastle-upon-Tyne, and photographs of it glistening on a driveway show it as having the personalised number plate THJ 15. The history file also contains a hand-written sales invoice dated November 5th 1989 from Mr Jepson to the car's second and current recorded keeper, a gentleman from a village near Nantwich, Cheshire. A letter from this gentleman written in January 2016 states that he acquired the car from Mr Jepson when the odometer recorded just over 19,000 miles, and shortly after purchasing the car he felt that it was too good an example to use as every day transport and placed it in dry storage in his barn. Sensibly he claims to have occasionally exercised the car on his property, but at the age of ninety-five, he has given up driving and the car needs to find a new home. The car was issued with a new MOT certificate on October 14th 2015 when the odometer recorded just 19,620 miles, which joins previous certificates in the file from May 1986 when the odometer recorded 7,975 miles, July 1987 at 11,694 miles, September 1988 at 15,973 miles, September 1989 at 19,224 miles, and May 1991 at 19,577 miles. This must present a very rare opportunity to acquire a Daimler Sovereign with manual transmission, such low recorded owners and mileage, and in such a fine reported condition.
