A George III silver shaped oblong inkstand by Henry Chawner, London 1792, with reeded borders throughout, a taperstick on a box drum base flanked by cylindrical wells, on four panel feet, engraved with two crests, presentation engraved under, 29cm (11.5in) long, 612g (19.65 oz). The demi-griffin crest of CHOLMONDELEY, kin of the Marquesses of Cholmondeley, and the seated griffin crest above a baronet’s badge of Sir William E. Berry, later Viscount Camrose, whose 1915 acqusition of the Sunday Times was an early step in a powerful career in the newspaper industry.
