HOT 13/48278Odometer reading: N/AMOT: Exempt *MGA project vehicle*Previously restored shell*Features a later 1,800cc engine*Great potentialTo view a video of this lot please click hereFootnotes:Launched as the replacement for the MG TF at the 1955 Frankfurt Motor Show, the MGA was revolutionary step forward for MG. It was designed by renowned MG designer Syd Enever and featured a much more aerodynamic design whose shape still looks familiar today. Following its launch, the MGA proved to be a hit and over 100,000 were sold by 1962 in both 2-door roadster and 2-door coupe body styles. This 1958 roadster offers great potential as a project car and is finished in the iconic British Racing Green. The shell itself has been well restored and still presents well. It is also noted that the car's original 1500cc engine has been swapped out for a later MGB 1,800cc unit mated to an MGA gearbox. The steering rack has also been built. Offered with a new radiator, windscreen, bumpers and some other small items. This is a great project vehicle with a lot of potential.Vendor Score Total: 36/100Bidders should note that the automated 100-point Seller's Assessment is provided by each Seller at the point of consignment using the guidelines below, and is not provided, assessed or verified by Bonhams MPH. 1964 Alfa Romeo Giulia Sprint GT Transmission: manualMileage:82000The Alfa Romeo Giulia (105) Sprint GT was designed by Bertone’s Giorgetto Giugiaro. The car was launched in September 1963 at the newly opened Arese plant, and displayed later that month at the Frankfurt Motor Show. The overall styling of the Giulia was kept very simple however, the Giulia had a very distinctive Scalino “step front” design with the bonnet sitting approximately 1/4 inch above the nose of the car. Alfa Romeo was one of the first manufacturers to put a powerful engine in a lightweight car for mainstream production, making it a forerunner to today's performance saloons. The Giulia was powered by Alfa Romeo’s twin cam, all-aluminium, four cylinder 1,570cc engine mated to a 5 speed gearbox. This punchy power plant ensured the car's performance was better than many sports cars of the era. Alfa Romeo took “Touring Car” racing by storm winning the European Touring Car Championship in 1966, 1967 and 1968. This restoration project is presented in traditional Rosso with blue interior. Its lively 1600 engine is mated to a manual gearbox and the owner informs us that the engine does run! A Heritage Certificate is forthcoming from Italy we are informed and should be in the history file at the time of the Auction. These wonderful classic Alfa Romeos are highly sought after and a restoration project such as this is so rare to find, particularly as the car is complete. Interested parties should satisfy themselves as to the description and condition of each lot prior to the sale. Accordingly, buyers are on notice that each vehicle is offered ‘as is/as seen’ subject to the Terms and Conditions for the auction. Buyers are advised to inspect the vehicle in person or use a professional to carry out this service. Historics will not entertain disputes over descriptions.
MAGNUS HEINRICH GUSTAV: (1802-1870) German Scientist. The "Magnus effect" is named after him. A very good A.L.S., `G.Magnus´, four pages, 4to, Berlin, 21st August 1848, to a French colleague, in German. Magnus states in part `Soon after I received your letter, the booksellers went to the Leipzig fair which is essential for German booktrade. Unfortunately it went that bad that the whole booktrade stagnates. This is why your publisher told me that he can't do anything now for your translation..if the circumstances will be favourable he is willing to publish a second edition..´ further saying `Athmospheric air is still collected here for you. Please forgive me as I didn't speak to Mr. [François] Arago because of the promotion. It was always my principle to step aside from courtly men…Unfortunately I wasn't able to work properly for 8 months. I am decan of our faculty these years, additionally to the political circumstances, there is little free time left. Are you still working on the vapours?´ And before concluding and referring to physical studies states `I would like to have 1. an Eudiometer made by you and 2. the equipment which Senarmont uses for his experiments on heat conduction.. Mr. Moritz from Petersburg told me you know Mr. Senarmont very well..´ A letter of good content. EX

Wellington announces 'We made another attempt upon St. Christoval last night which failed; & in fact we have not made a practicable breach in that outwork, nor in the body of the place. In the meantime Soult & Marmont are moving into Estremadura in great strength; and I think will join by the 15th and I have therefore again ordered that the siege may be raised' and continues 'The enemy are either coming into Portugal, or they are about to attack Elvas. The only circumstance I have to apprehend is that Elvas will be ill-provided', further remarking that the Portuguese troops have been living off the stores of the Garrison 'and I must either leave the place without supplies or give them from our stores; and it is not impossible but that the necessity of waiting here to collect these supplies & throw them into the place, may bring us into an awkward situation'. Wellington concludes 'Thus this terrible system of Govt. & the abuses in all the departments are getting us into scrapes at every step we take'. A letter of excellent content. 1964 Honda C110, 49cc. Registration number JMC 52B ( see text). Frame number C110 D291232. Engine number 65017.Introduced in 1958, Honda's classic C100 Cub 'step-thru' gave millions of people the world over their first taste of two-wheeled mobility. Better-built, more powerful and more reliable than the majority of contemporary mopeds, while endowed with handling superior to that of the small-wheeled scooter, the C100 set new sales records for motorcycle production and its descendants continue to be immensely popular today. The first sports derivative, the C110 Sports Cub, appeared in October 1960. This was a proper small motorcycle, with spine frame and a more powerful version of the C100 motor having a higher compression ratio and an alloy cylinder head. The model remained in production until 1966. The power was increased to 5bhp, and for a machine weighing only 66kg gave 50cc motorcycling a whole new appeal! For the first time, a 50cc roadster was able to top 50mph, and to put that into perspective, Honda?s Dream 50 special launched 37 years later in 1997, with four valves and double overhead cam, struggled to get to 40mph! Progress? JMC 52B was owned by Laurie Honey in 1980 before our vendors brother in law bought it in June 1986. Its last run out was at the Castleford & District Cavalcade of British and Classic Bikes on the 14th June 1992 as entry 603. JMC 52B was owned by Laurie Honey in 1980 before our vendors brother in law bought it in June 1986. Its last run out was at the Castleford & District Cavalcade of British and Classic Bikes on the 14th June 1992 as entry 603. This was undertaken with the vendors father on the Tiger Cub, VTN 180, also in this auction, after which the vendors brother in law emigrated to America.Sold with an old style V5 and an original Drivers Manual, an interesting a rare project.
