Registration No: NFO 885 Frame No: Not visible MOT: ExemptRestored some years agoHardly used since completionA second series AV3Current V5CNamed ‘Mobylette’, the new AV3 moped was presented to an enthusiastic public at the Utrecht Industries Fair in late 1949 and became an immediate hit. The appeal was its affordable simplicity, and a product that many cyclists of the day could readily relate to as a more effective transport for their daily commute to work, while its step-through tubular frame design appealed to both men and women. The original AV3 Mobylette was officially only produced from 1949 until October 1952 and featured a rigid front fork and frame with calliper brakes front & rear and direct drive (no clutch). This 1953 Motobecane has formed part of a small collection of autocycles and mopeds for some years. It is not known when it was restored, however, it retains many of the model's original features. Offered with a current V5C, the machine will require some light recommissioning before use, as it has not been used for some time. Registration No: 144 XVR Frame No: 149193 MOT: ExemptPreviously one family/company ownership from newSubstantial history fileRestored and in full working order at the time of consignmentV5 and ready to use on UK roadsThe Lambretta LD Mk1 was first introduced in 1951 as a 125cc model as a successor to the LC. It had covered panels over a tubular frame and had the addition of a torsion bar. This feature remained on all Lambrettas until 1958. The LD also had springs enclosed in the front forks. The Mk2 had a number of improvements. The rear brake was now cable-controlled and the gears used a single teleflex cable. There was also a small luggage box which housed the optional speedometer. The whole ride experience was much improved and the LD Mk2 was subsequently a very popular model. Lambretta Concessionaires, the British importer of Italian Lambretta scooters had already begun enhancing the product with a line of practical and decorative accessories in order to grow the market within clubs and the public. One further step was to emulate the successful Italian trend of scooters being used as the business vehicle and alongside the Steib passenger sidecar the Steib Tradesman box was also offered. Steib Metallbau from Nuremberg, Germany had been making high-quality sidecars since 1928 and with the scooter versions were the official sidecar supplier to Lambretta Concessionaires from 1954. Steib Metallbau closed in 1957 making their scooter sidecars very rare indeed and the tradesman box even rarer. This extraordinary 1955-built combination registered new in January 1956 by Warburton Bros motorcycle dealers of Cheshire was purchased new by the former keeper's grandfather in January 1956 for his company Thomas Coppock & Co. The company supplied quality paint, paint brushes and lacquers in the Manchester area from their Stockport base. The vehicle had previously never left Cheshire. The buff logbook shows one change of owner to a James Shackleton, but we know this to be an employee of Coppock and Co, as was usual to have the regular user on the logbook. It was subsequently transferred back to the previous keeper's father. The original registration number 'KDB 87' was transferred to another vehicle and the scooter has been issued with an age-related number. The substantial history file that accompanies this combination includes: The original buff logbook (with an admin error on the stated serial numbers which are not Lambretta numbers), a copy of the official entry in the Cheshire archives for 'KDB 87', and all of the subsequent transfers of the number off the vehicle. Also, a substantial amount of original Thomas Coppock & Co promotional memorabilia, a Cheshire fuel ration book and original serviceman’s handbook. There are also a large number of photographs of the vehicle before and during the recent restoration. There is also the original scooter guarantee from Lambretta Concessonaires signed by Peter Agg himself in January 1956This example has been subject to a well considered and complete restoration in 2019 in the original colour of the time by Jed Lahan local a well known Cheshire motorcycle scooter restorer. Or consultant was able to see the scooter running and was able to ride the combination over a long distance with no issues. She comes with two full sets of working keys including for the trade box, and is ready to use with V5 on UK roads. Consider coffee seller, mobile bar and mobile vinyl disco? Registration No: OCN 94L Frame No: VSD1T 0025622 MOT: ExemptBritish registered from new Recently professional overhaul at Disco Dez ScootersVery original with great patinaV5C for immediate useThe Rally also known as the queen of Vespas was a large performance step up from the earlier models of the 1960’s. The 180 versions were well received for their performance and appearance. Only 26,494 were produced before the 200 version which are more common replaced it. Generally based on the previous Super Sport the real star of the rally was its new powerful rotary valve engine. With a larger fuel tank for longer journeys and reduction in the necessary fuel mix down to 2% the Rally 180 really was a major improvement on the previous models. Still with classic lines the Rally is considered to be the last of the ‘real metal’ large engined Vespas before the P-range arrived with its many plastic parts. We understand the the first owner from new was a Wayne Fraser of Newcastle who sold it to an Andrew Brocklehorst who in turn sold it to our vendor recently. However our vendor has also applied for a new V5C in his sons name which will add another owner. There are a number of early tax discs which give some provenance going back to 1977.Mechanically this scooter is very good in our opinion and is in mostly original paint. The chassis number has been partially obscured by some black paint applied by a previous owner which could be removed however luckily the number was photographed before he did that. The MPH speedometer is the original and showing 9687 miles. All keys are present for steering lock, toolbox and ignition. The engine with correct number VSD1M 0025887 has been thoroughly overhauled at Disco Dez Scooters using correct parts throughout. The floor has been replaced at some point but as we agreed with the mechanic at Disco Dez the work has been done really well and it handles on the road as it should. Our consultant was also able to ride it on the road and can confirm that this is so. The scooter has new BGM wheel rims and brand new S83 Michelin tyres. This is a perfect rally going scooter with great looks and a super reliable Rally engine that is running as new. Rally 180s with this original look are very hard to find now. Registration No: JVA 173N Chassis No: VSE1T 0022064 MOT: ExemptOriginal Italian logbook from newOriginal paint all over with some overpaint and patinaIn largely original state with provenanceV5C present for use on UK roads The Vespa Rally 200 made between 1972 and 1979 is much sought after by collectors due to its excellent and powerful performance coupled with attractive lines. Just over 41700 were produced. The Rally also known as the queen of Vespas was a large performance step up from the earlier models of the 1960’s. The 180 versions were well received for their performance and appearance. The 200 was similar to the Rally 180 but with a larger capacity cylinder capable of producing over 10 HP and crankcase modifications were made necessary to accommodate that. There was also a new FEMSA electronic unit and the Rally 200 was produced in a range of vibrant colours in tune with the fashions of the 1970’s.Here we present an attractive and largely original Rally 200 in fine working condition at the time of consignment. A original Italian market model it comes with its registration book from new confirming its provenance. It was imported into the UK in 2006 and from the large number of MOTs (2006 until 2019) regular use and maintenance is evident since then. Mechanically, it is standard. It has had some over-paint which has been largely removed and could be improved further. It appears that the side panel stickers are original and were never overpainted. All the rubbers appear to be the original correct black type and the handgrips also appear to be the original grips. The floor runners and rubbers also appear original and the centre floor pad has the correct cross head screws. The seat is an original Rally seat with a padded and comfortable new cover, although original in appearance. The speedometer is an MPH replacement, the rear shock is a quality adjustable Bitubo. We were able to start the scooter and all was working superbly at the time of consignment. This can be seen in the video. The V5C is present. Registration No: LST 410P Frame No: VSE1T 0029127 MOT: ExemptOriginal all over including paint in a rare Terracotta colourRemarkable conditionV5C present for use on UK roads The Vespa Rally 200 made between 1972 and 1979 is much sought after by collectors due to its excellent and powerful performance coupled with attractive lines. Just over 41,700 were produced. The Rally also known as the queen of Vespas was a large performance step up from the earlier models of the 1960’s. The 180 versions were well received for their performance and appearance. The 200 was similar to the Rally 180 but with a larger capacity cylinder capable of producing over 10hp and crankcase modifications were made necessary to accommodate that. There was also a new FEMSA electronic unit and the Rally 200 was produced in a range of vibrant colours in tune with the fashions of the 1970s.Here we present an astonishingly original example. As a USA specification model, it was imported from there into the UK in 2019. It was MOT’d then and our vendor has owned it since then and has never used it. As a US model it has its original MPH speedometer and comes with the indicators, mirrors and protruding rear light. These have been removed as a matter of taste but are included and could be easily reinstalled, the rear light being replaced with an Aprilia version is the only change that has been made to the entire machine. The fuel system is the US spec Autolube fuel mix. The scooter also has a rear rack with a backrest in a style which was only available in the US market. The petrol tank is clean and like new inside. Of course all keys are present as is the original tool kit. We could not see any non-standard or replacement part. Showing 8,569 miles on the odometer, we feel this is genuine. An utterly original time warp. For more information, please contact: Paul Diamond info@vintagescooters.co.uk 07768 313001
Registration No: 297 YUG Frame No: VB1T85296 MOT: ExemptImpressive custom creation by a renowned Vespa expertClassic Scooterist magazine featuredA subtle blend of old and newPrecision engineered detail all overPinstriping by the late John ‘Letterknight’ V5C and ready for the roadWe present here an intriguing custom vintage incarnation based on an early 1958 VB1 (known in the UK as a Clubman) and a performance 221cc Pollini engined conversion of a VSE1M 200 engine. There are many impressive innovations throughout. The ‘Clubman’ immediately followed the last of the VL models models retaining their classic lines and wasp like shape but with a headlight mounted on the handlebars and a closer nod to the already famous GS range. This project was said to be at the time the piece de resistance by the vendor and is famous in scootering circles in the East Midlands scooter groups. He is a very well respected engineer and fabricator highly sought after for his Vespa engine work in the East Midlands. It took 12 months to compete. It is difficult to know where to start with this fabulous creation as there are so many innovations all over the machine that dovetail and complement each other. Based on a VB1 frame which was chosen for its dainty shape as a ‘mini GS’ and the attractiveness of the clamshell speedometer. The side panel has an ingenious spring loaded rear catch utilising a seat catch The paintwork was done after all correct preparation by Craig at The Scooter Paint Shop and pinstriped by the late John ‘Letterknight’ famous for his hand paint work on narrowboats. The scooter and engine were both sourced directly in the UK. Many original parts were retained including: The original frame and body panels were not modified in shape throughout except with a modification to the front mudguard to accept the upgraded front shock and original handlebar assembly on which has been specially engraved an extra 4th gear. The PX forks with 10 inch wheel were modified to take the GS style Clubman headset. The front brakes are a PX disc with SIP hydraulic caliper and with braided hose on the cable we are informed it 'stops on a tanner’. The wheels are stainless split rim type with new condition Conti Twist tyres. The engine has been modified with a Polini 180 cylinder and barrel and a 60mm Temeni crank taking the capacity up to 221cc. The exhaust is a SIP Road 2 with specially extended tailpipe. The choke is positioned in an offset position to suit the new engine. We are told by the vendor that the performance is extremely good and the scooter will cruise at 60MPH but will go to 70MPH quite easily whenever necessary. He said it is lovely to ride and feels safe. The electrics have been converted to a quality Ducati 12v system with Cdi and the regulator is hidden well inside the side tool box which is rubber lined on the tool box floor. The seat is a specially bespoke made wide ‘Super Gandolphi’ style with pinball type catch. It was covered with a soft fluted trim by revered trim expert Richard Flavell. Other innovations that we noticed were that there is now an extra tool box in the former carburettor compartment and a specially made auxiliary fuel tank within the spare wheel positioned inside the leg shield which holds exactly 2 litres of fuel. The scooter is enhanced by a retractable side saddle step, a sprint type rack and and engineered stainless mudflap. The scooter was the focus of an article in ‘Classic Scooterist’ magazine in June 2012. We were able to see the scooter running well as can be seen by the below video taken at the time of consignment.
