An original wartime postcard dated 24th December 1942 from Camo P.G. 21 at Chieti, Italy to Squadron Leader Dennin Wheatley, who was currently on Winston Churchills 'Planning' Staff attached to MI5 during WW2. This postcard was sent by his step-son, Lieutenant John "Jack" Younger (latterly Major General Sir John "Jack" Younger, 3rd Baronet, CBE) and refers in the card "congratulations even Gregory never did better". This refers to Gregory Sallust, one of Wheatleys best known fiction spys who pitted his wits against the Nazi's and always triumphed. Younger was captured by the Germans during the battle for Tobruk on 20th June 1942, after fierce fighting. He and his men held out under heavy shellfire but were eventually overwhelmed, and Younger was taken prisoner. He was sent to Camp 21 in Italy, where he maintained his composure, famously greeting a friend with nonchalance despite being a POW. Following the Italian armistice in September 1943, Younger escaped from the camp, narrowly avoiding recapture by hiding in a water tank. He joined the Italian partisans and helped organize escape routes for Allied POWs, assisting 18 men in crossing into neutral Switzerland, including one who traveled disguised as a fireman on a train. Younger also gathered vital intelligence, which he passed through partisan channels, and commanded sabotage operations for several months. In October 1944, he was ordered to return to the 8th Army with a group of escaped prisoners and was later awarded an MBE for his courageous actions during the war.

§ Simon Palmer (1956-) The argument over Bob Major signed 'Simon Palmer' (lower right) watercolour 29 x 32cm South Yorkshire-born artist Simon Palmer is widely celebrated as one of England's leading contemporary landscape artists. His profound and abiding connection to rural England, particularly the Yorkshire Dales, forms the bedrock of his artistic inspiration and output.Palmer synthesises meticulous attention to detail, vibrant colours, and oblique perspectives in his quintessentially English scenes—rolling hills, winding paths, stone walls, and quaint villages—that are at once eerily dreamlike and reassuringly familiar. His working practice reflects this blend, as he creates preparatory sketches en plein air before later translating them in watercolour through memory and feeling. Palmer captures not just the visual aspects of these landscapes but also the sensory experiences they evoke: the crackle of brittle leaves, the scent of fresh earth, and the interplay of light and shadow.Following in the tradition of artists like John and Paul Nash, Eric Ravilious, and Graham Sutherland, Palmer's work is distinguished by his ability to convey the atmosphere and mood of a place. His landscapes are imbued with a sense of timelessness, inviting viewers to step into a world where the beauty of nature remains unspoiled. This capacity to create a strong sense of place has made his work particularly resonant with those who cherish the English countryside.

The election in 1950 was the first in the nation's history where all adult males had a right to vote. After gaining office, Magloire oversaw women's suffrage being granted. During his presidency, Haiti became one of the most popular Caribbean destinations for American and European tourists. Magloire and Leconte emphasised public works and cultural projects during this time. In 1951, the Madame Paul E. Magloire Foundation was created to establish two solid educational and professional training institutions for young girls in Haiti, L'ecoles des arts menagers of Saint Martin and Cap-Haitien. Yolette Leconte Magloire was also known for her charity banquets and balls, the proceeds of which were used to fund hospitals and orphanages.
