Voyages.- Barrow (John) A Voyage to Cochinchina, in the years 1792 and 1793, first edition, 19 hand-coloured aquatint plates after Alexander and Daniell (1 folding, 2 of fruit printed in colours and finished by hand), 2 folding engraved maps and charts with partial hand-colouring, a few plates with light offsetting, plates of fruit trimmed at foot with partial loss to imprint, occasional light spotting, contemporary calf, rubbed with loss to spine labels, upper cover and free endpaper detached, lower cover detached along with final 2 leaves of index, [Abbey, Travel 514; Tooley 86], 4to, 1806.⁂ The first illustrated English work on what was then Cochin China, now known as Vietnam. The voyage visited Madeira, the Canary Islands, Rio de Janeiro and Tristan da Cunha, reaching Cochin China via Batavia on Java. The volume is also of Cook interest as it describes finding Captain Cook's Resolution transformed into a smuggling whaler under the French flag. The supplementary article covers an overland expedition from Cape Town to the interior of South Africa and the "Booshuana Nation".

Naval General Service Medal 1793-1840 Single Clasp Capture of the Desiree 8/7/1800 Issued to Richard Bluett, Lieut RN. Officially Impressed with reverse pin for wear. The Medal has contemporary silver replacement suspension, toned, scratch to cheek of portrait and in obverse field.Only 24 medals were issued for this action.Commander Richard Bluett was born near Falmouth, 18/1/1781 His family were shipbuilders and were closely related to the old and influential Bluett family based at Halcombe Court. He joined the Royal Navy as an Able Seaman in April 1793 at the age of 12. He made his way up through the ranks and was present as Lieutenant aboard HMS Babet in July 1800 when it was involved in the capture of the French vessel the Desiree. His varied career continued and he was present at the Battle of Finisterre in 1805, at the reduction of the Cape of Good Hope in 1806 and was also noted for his "Steadiness and Good Conduct" at the taking of St Paul's Ile De Bourbon in 1809. Richard Bluett was promoted to Commander on 6/12/1816 and retired to half pay in 1837. He married Maria Fisher in County Cork in 1812. He died on 15/04/1854 aged 73 in Dublin.(Medal comes with copies of extensive research).

Medium Packet - containing old time sheets and covers. Mainly Victorian, (mixed condition). Penny reds plated, 2d Blues plated (not checked) on cover, Mulready, early covers with various postal markings, loose stamps, etc. An exciting small collection of interest. Also includes two 1927 Cape triangles one cancelled Cape Town September 1927. These may be the later reprints from the defaced stereos by Allis and Jurgens of the same date. Unlikely to have been postally used so the cancel may be created. A great little lot.

A Victorian hand stitched cape, the taffeta base having brown velvet ribbon trellis work, three rows of fringing, 60cm; a brown self pattern parasol with fringe, wooden handle and bone finial; a satin and lace fan with wooden sticks; and a white ostrich feather.Qty: 4Condition report:There is some fraying to the velvet on the Cape. There is some staining and mould to the inside of the parasol near the wooden sticks. The ivory end of the parasol will be removed prior to the sale. There is some staining and ripping to the fan. It is missing the top of one stick, and two others appear to have been repaired. The feather is in good condition. Please see additional uploaded images.

A Chelsea figure of an Imperial Shepherd, c.1765, gold anchor mark to back of base, modelled standing with a hound at his feet, with his right arm outstretched, on a gilt scroll-moulded base, 31cm highProvenance: The Property of John Kenworthy-Browne FSA.Condition Report: The top of the shepherd's crook has been broken off, the piece is with the lot. The outstretched arm has been broken off and re-glued, the hand has also been restored. The hat has a large loss. The edge of the cape has been restored. Several leaves to the brocade have been broken off and lost. The underside has a large firing crack which has been filled.
A collection of eight Staffordshire pottery flatbacks, 19th century, to include four depicting William Ewart Gladstone, 1809-98, variously standing with one hand on a plinth or wall and the other hand on or in front of his jacket, one example with an axe leaning near his hand and a Union Jack flying behind, three bearing his name to the base, the tallest approximately 40cm high; together with a similarly designed figure of a bearded politician, indistinctly titled, 38cm high; a figure of the Irish Nationalist leader Charles Stewart Parnell, 1846-91, dressed as a Roman general and holding aloft a green cape with Union Jack and Irish harp, titled to base, 34cm high; a figure of Roualeyn George Gordon-Cumming, 1820-66, The Lion Slayer, in Highland dress, titled to base, 42cm high; and a figure group commemorating the Acts of Union 1800, featuring allegories of Great Britain and Ireland seated on land separated by waves and shaking hands, overlooked by a winged angelic figure, 31cm high (8)Provenance: The Property of the late Lord Avebury.
