TOWER ARMOURIES, LONDON A RARE .733 PERCUSSION DOUBLE-BARRELLED CARBINE, MODEL 'PAT. 1853 RIFLED CAPE CARBINE', no visible serial number, dated for 1854, with 26in. side-by-side barrels, proofs, ordnance marks and sold out of service arrows at breech, small blade fore-sight, standing notch rear-sight with small elevating ladder, large moulded nipple snails, colour hardened top-tang with shallow sighting groove, borderline engraved back-action shotgun style locks marked with a 'V.R.' and crown device over the signature and date, walnut straight hand half-stock, brass furniture including raised scrolled lower tang, iron saddle-bar and ring to the left hand side and captive iron pan-head ramrod, much original finish appearing unissued and simply 'sold out of service'.
CALISHER & TERRY, BIRMINGHAM A SCARCE .577 PERCUSSION BREECH-LOADING CARBINE, MODEL 'MILITARY ISSUE SADDLE-CARBINE', serial no. 754, dated for 1860, with 20 1/2in. blued barrel, block and blade fore-sight, ladder rear-sight graduated to 900 yds., the rear of breech with ordnance stamps and inscribed 'TERRY'S PATENT 30 BORE' (rubbed, faint), side-mounted lift and twist bolt, plain lock signed 'TOWER' together with the date and a crown over 'V.R.' device, walnut full-stock with iron furniture, the heel-plate spur marked 'CMR' over 'B' over '754' (Cape Mounted Rifles, Company B, Trooper 754', side mounted saddle-bar, single key and barrel-band and complete with iron clearing rod.
