New England Impressionist Beach Scene, depicting a dory on the dunes of Cape Cod. Oil on canvas, signed lower right. Born on May 23, 1887 in Waterbury, CT. Davis studied at the Boston Museum School. By the turn of the century she had moved to San Francisco where she further studied at the Mark Hopkins Institute (1905-06), UC Berkeley, and received a B.A. degree at the CCAC. About 1916 she began teaching in the public schools in the San Francisco Bay area and then for 26 years she was head of the art department at College of San Mateo. Upon retirement in the mid-1950s, she settled on the Monterey Peninsula. A spinster, Davis died in Pacific Grove, CA on Oct. 19, 1976. Member: Carmel AA; SF Women Artists; SFAA; Calif. and American Bookplate Societies. Exh: PPIE, 1915; San Francisco Art Association, 1918. Overall size: 20 x 24 in. Sight size: 15 1/4 x 19 1/4 in.

Douglas. 185cm l. he was built by Clyde Shipbuilding and Engineering in Port Glasgow for Goole Steam Shipping Company's Copenhagen service. With her white hull, she was known as one of the "butter boats." She became the property of the Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway in 1907.In 1922 she became the property of the London and North Western Railway and in 1923, the London, Midland and Scottish Railway.In 1935 he was the property of Associated Humber Lines. By this time she had her hull colour changed to black.She was sold in 1937 to the Stanhope Steam Ship Company and renamed Stanhope and later the same year to G M Mavroleon, Greece and renamed Nepheligeretis. In 1938 she was sold to B Athanassiades and renamed Hermes, then Suzy. She was renamed Ioanna in 1940.On 1 June 1940 she was part of Convoy HG 32F. She straggled behind the convoy. She was shelled and sunk in the Atlantic Ocean 120 nautical miles (220 km) west of Cape Finisterre, Spain by U-37
