South Africa – Sir John Jackson fine album of approx 130 photos compiled by the family of Sir John Jackson when he was working on the docks at Simon`s Town Cape Colony South Africa. The album contains good photographs of street scenes coastal views the harbour etc and a photo postcard of picket boats at Simon`s Town Regatta in 1904. Some of these are panoramas which is quite unusual for the time. There are also photographs showing members of the Jackson family fishing and sailing in Scotland in 1902 and playing hockey at Tynemouth in 1904 and some images of Hugh Jackson as an officer in India with pictures of his camp mess tent etc.

(sic) But it is not quite impossible that I may visibly appear somewhere new Cape Cod in August. Quien Sabe?` He continues `For John Cooper Powys I have the greatest admiration. He is one of the truly civilized men of our time.` and in concluding remarks `I, never having been married, have not yet gotten a divorce.` Scarce. VG

Vintage signed 4.5 x 3.5 photograph, the image depicting the Prince of Wales standing in a three quarter length pose, wearing a pith helmet and short sleeve shirt, on the deck of a boat. Signed (`Edward P`) in dark fountain pen ink to a light area of the image and dated Nigeria, 1925 in his hand. A second date, in an unidentified hand, of Lagos, 22nd April 1925, appears to the verso. Accompanied by the original envelope addressed to Mrs. A. Burt in London and postally cancelled at Cape Town, 1st May 1925.
