A HIGHLY IMPORTANT 1805 PATTERN NAVAL OFFICER SWORD OF NELSON INTEREST, gilt brass stirrup hilt with lions head pommel, guard with down-turned quillon, languets with fouled anchor, the back strap inscribed, used by LORD NELSON, and presented by him to Lieutenant EDWARD GASCOIGNE PALMER, ivory grip in eight sections divided with copper wire binding, back-edged blade with single fuller with traces of gilt decoration, one side engraved with trophies of arms, scrolls and post 1801 Royal Coat of Arms, the other with crowned fouled anchor, brass mounted leather scabbard, plain chape, the locket inscribed Used by LORD NELSON and presented by him to Lieutenant EDWARD GASCOIGNE PALMER, 37.5ins, Circa. 1803, gilt worn, top of grip chipped and with replaced bone, locket sword sling ring missing; together with its original officers narrow patent leather sword belt with five gilt lions head mounts including sword sling mounts and two-part buckle with scrolled dolphin hook, one guard sling, cracked and with a tear, The Coat of Arms on the blade was used 1801-1816. Note: Edward Gascoigne Palmer entered the Navy, 20 June, 1803, under the auspices of H.R.H. the Duke of Kent on board the Donegal 74. In 1805 he accompanied Lord Nelson to the West Indies. Lieut. Palmer married, 3 Aug. 1831, Harriet, relict of the late Higgles Bayley, Esq., of Cape Coast Castle, by whom he has one child.

A bronze figure of the first KarmapaTibet, 16th century Noteworthy bronze sculpture depicting Dusum Kyenpa (1110-1193), first Karmapa and origin of the Karma Kagyu lineage in the Kagyupa school, founded during the XI century by the masters Marpa Milarepa and Gampopa. The figure is sitting in the padmasana position, on a double lotus flower base with big petals. The right hand performs the bhumisparsamudra, while the left one performs the avakasamudra. The figure wears an headdress characteristic of his lineage, and a rich monastic robe supplemented by a cape with peculiar ribbing on the back. On the robes are silver and copper appliqué reinforcing the edges, chiseled with phytomorphic motifs. Fragments of Autobiography: First Series, 1st edition, Jonathan Cape, 1952, portrait frontispiece, illustrations, original cloth, dust jacket, spine slightly faded, 8vo Presentation copy, inscribed to front endpaper: "To Menina, my good collaborative, Augustus John, 1952". Together with three signed one page autograph letters to Menina Mesquita, two dated 1948, sending her manuscripts for typing, with various comments "I'm so glad this work doesn't bore you, it's a good omen!", a signed Christmas card, 1948, a one page unsigned typescript note, dated 1952, to Daniel George at Jonathan Cape, "And is Menina back? Good news! She helped me enormously before and it seems to me she makes everything look better than it really is. Mexican magic!", with an attached compliment slip "D.G. thought you would be amused to see the attached! Beware, as Augustus is on the prowl again!", plus some press cuttings. Menina Mesquita was secretary to Jonathan Cape. (1)

LIAM O'FLAHERTY [1896-1984]Born on Inismore on the Aran Islands, O'Flaherty was the ninth child of a small farmer with 15 acres of stony ground. He showed great promise at school, and was given scholarships to Rockwell and Blackrock College. He completed one year at University College Dublin, initially as a seminarian, but in 1915 became bored and joined the Irish Guards, using his mother's name. He served in France on the Somme, where he suffered shell-shock. He was discharged in 1917 and returned home to convalesce. He had become interested in left wing politics, and in 1921, back in Dublin, he led a group of dockers who seized the Rotunda and hoisted a red flag. During the Civil War he joined the Republican side for a time, before going to London to write.He established himself as a writer with the help and encouragement of Edward Garnett, reader for Jonathan Cape publishers in London, who noticed an early story in a socialist weekly. On Garnett's recommendation, Cape published O'Flaherty's first novel Thy Neighbour's Wife in 1923, and he never looked back._____________________________________________________________________________With Signed InscriptionO'Flaherty (Liam) I Went to Russia, 8vo L. A Pauline Trigère black faille cocktail dress of interesting construction, late 1950s, labelled, with floating panel to back with neck ties rising from the hem forming a cape, the front with similar panel caught at the waist and forming a draped hem, bust 86cm, 34in CONDITION REPORT: Slight internal alterations (slightly taken in at left underarm), strap needs re-stitching, neck edge needs re-stitching. Silk faille is fresh and clean.
An Yves Saint Laurent green taffeta 'domino' cape, 1976-8, Rive Gauche labelled and size 38, with deep flounced collar CONDITION REPORT: Watermark at right front hem and a couple of small tears here also. Faint patch of yellow discolouration to lower right skirt, not immediately obvious, and similar at left front edge (minor). Make-up remains inside neck edge and minor soil mark to interior. Would benefit from dry cleaning. Overall very fresh and clean and great vibrant, even colour.
A Madame Grès couture black jersey sheath, 1970s, labelled and with defilé tape handwritten '105 Vicky, At. Jeannine, 11931', the columnar gown with boned organza integral corset to the strapless bodice, ivory and black floating panel forming a cape which hooks onto the bodice front, with rope-twist neck band, bust 76-81cm, 30-32in, waist 60cm, 23 1/2in CONDITION REPORT: Soiling to inside edge of rope-twist neck band, small repair to edge of front bodice. Hem probably altered at some point. Organza shoulder strap is frayed on one edge. Scarf - 2cm split, easily repaired and a few scattered small holes (minor).
A Yohji Yamamoto 'Pilgrim' ensemble, Autumn-Winter, 2006, labelled and size 1 comprising: flecked cotton/linen jacket front with two belts slotted through D-rings, with attached homespun-effect grey tweed cape woven with a large blue tartan crucifix to the back; with marching grey peg-topped culotte trousers, one leg being wider than the other, waist 71cm, 28in (2)This was look no 12 in the show.
A rare Lucile black satin evening cape, circa 1914, un-labelled, embroidered in white wool and angora with Indian inspired foliate boteh motifs, raised, pleated collar to frame the face, no fastenings, side slits for the arms, lined in black chiffon For a similar model with Lucile label see KTA 23.6.2015 auction, lot 72. CONDITION REPORT: Good condition, exterior generally good. Small nick in front right 'skirt' panel. Lining - centre back panel generally good, few small moth holes but chiffon areas to back of each wool embroidered boteh has bad damage to the chiffon. Embroidery itself is good and appears unaffected.
A Jean Patou couture coral pink velvet asymmetric evening cape, 1920s, large woven pink and ivory label, numbered 4750, the soft velvet edged in ruched rope-twist effect bands, with curved panel to one side and single sleeve with cuff to the other CONDITION REPORT: Good condition. Slightly soiled, a few small nicks and spot marks to lining and a few small rust spots to exterior, tiny area of shoulder seam needs re-stitching.
A Chanel couture beaded beige chiffon flapper dress, 1926-8, un-labelled, adorned with pewter-grey and gold bugle beaded zig-zag bands, the skirt falling in two tiers with irregular frond-like edgings, bust 81cm, 32in For an identical model see KTA 10.07.2007, lot 103 which sold for £25,000. For a black chiffon dress altered into a cape with similar beadwork pattern see KTA 26.06.2012, lot 76, which sold for £6,200, CONDITION REPORT: Poor condition, dress has been taken in at the sides and the slip has bust darts added to reduce the width also. Central and lower sections of slip have been added to lengthen. A presstud closure has been added to the right-hand side of the dress. Holes near armhole areas, small hole centre back below neck edging. Beadwork is fragile and needs re-backing but a good study document.
