An Austrian painted pottery figure of a seated frog in a cape in the manner of Goldscheider, inscribed to base "1848 Austria", together with a Thomas Forrester twin-handled vase, decorated with a fisherman, signed "J Hale" CONDITION REPORTS Frog approx 13.75 cm tall. Large crack to the ruff at the back behind reveals extensive re-gluing. Chips and losses. Most of the collar has been off. Body with various small scratches, marks, nibbles etc and general signs of wear and tear throughout. Vase approx 15 cm tall, light body scratches and wear . some chips and losses to the glaze. There are some clotted marks, some crazing. The lighter colours appear to be browned. Impact mark to thebody and three resulting cracks running off from it - see images. WILSON EDMUND: (1895-1972) American Writer & Critic who explored Freudian and Marxist themes and influenced other American writers including F. Scott Fitzgerald. A.L.S., Edmund Wilson, one page, 4to, Cape Cod, Massachusetts, 11th September 1953, to [John] Lehmann. Wilson states that he appears to have only received one royalty payment for The Triple Thinkers, remarking 'I gather from our contract two are due' and asking 'Will you please let me know how our account stands?'. Wilson further adds that, if any money is due, he would prefer to collect it when he visits England for a week or two in the following January 'so that I can spend it there'. Together with a second A.L.S., Edmund Wilson, one page, 4to, Cape Cod, Massachusetts, 22nd September 1953, also to [John] Lehmann. Wilson states that he is sorry to hear that his correspondent has lost his firm, although continues 'I'm very glad to hear that you are starting a magazine. A good literary monthly is badly needed'. Wilson further remarks 'I can't do you an American letter though. I have never written this kind of article because I never know enough about what is being published - especially now that I live in the country & rarely read contemporary books. I can't do reviews either, but if I have anything I think you might use, I'll send it'. Some overall creasing and a few rust stains to each letter, the latter not affecting the text or signatures, G, 2 John Lehmann (1907-1987) English Poet and man of letters. Lehmann served as managing director of Leonard and Virginia Woolf's Hogarth Press from 1938-46 after which he established his own publishing company, John Lehmann Limited, which operated from 1946-53. In 1954 he founded The London Magazine and edited the periodical up until 1961.
SHEPARD ALAN: (1923-1998) American Astronaut, the first American to travel in space as one of the original NASA Mercury Seven. Commander of the Apollo XIV mission and the fifth man to walk on the Moon. Signed and inscribed 8 x 10 photograph, the image depicting the Mercury-Redstone 3 rocket as it lifts off from Cape Canaveral, 5th May 1961. Signed by Shepard in bold black ink to a clear area of the image. VG
DUKE CHARLES: (1935- ) American Astronaut, Lunar Module Pilot of Apollo XVI. The tenth man to walk on the Moon. Signed colour 10 x 8 photograph of Duke standing in a full-length pose, wearing his white spacesuit, on the surface of the Moon. A Lunar Roving Vehicle can be seen in the distance. Signed by Duke in bold black ink to a clear area at the centre of the image, adding Apollo 16 in his hand beneath his signature. Together with Edgar Mitchell (1930-2016) American Astronaut, Lunar Module Pilot of Apollo XIV, the sixth man to walk on the Moon. Signed colour 10 x 8 photograph, the image depicting Mitchell standing in a full-length profile pose during his moonwalk of 1971. Signed by Mitchell in bold gold ink to the image, adding 'Apollo 14' beneath his signature. Also including Walt Cunningham (1932- ) American Astronaut, Lunar Module Pilot of Apollo XII. Signed colour 4 x 6 postcard photograph, the image depicting the astronaut in a half-length pose beside a model of a Saturn IB rocket, the postcard featuring two American postage stamps, postmarked Cape Canaveral 20th February 1987. The Berlin Missionary Society: 1849 November 19, entire written by Carl Friedrich Julius Schultheiss, headed 'Itemba, 19th Nov 1849', addressed initially to Cape Town, then readdressed to 'Rev'd C Blech, Mission Seminary, Sebastian Strasse, Berlin, with various m/script rate markings, reverse bears boxed "AMERICA per ENGLAND', in black, "INDIA LETTER/FALMOUTH' in blue and London transit cds for 1 FE 50 in red, although headed 'Itemba' this mission was burnt down during the 1847-49 'War of the Axe' and Schultheiss was probably based at Bethany at the time of writing, accompanied by an English translation of the contents, a rare and fascinating early missionary item (Plate )

Russian porcelain figure of a Masked Lady circa 1840, Imperial Porcelain factory St Petersburg, modelled wearing floral garland, black mask, cape, pink ribbons and green stripped dress, gilt scrollwork base, unmarked, 13cm high Condition report: Chip to the underside of her sleeve, flaking to the black enamel, minor gilt wear. No restoration or other damages.

Jackson. Engineer Regiment, Royal Navy, H.M.S. Inflexible, later 4539 Corp E. Jackson, 53rd Company, Imperial Yeomanry. A fantastic pair and mini all in fantastic condition. Well worth further research.
