Three miniature Continental silver models of bull fighters and dancers, the larger piece depicting a Matador trying to subdue the bull with his cape, another with a Rejoneador (bull fighter on horseback) and bull, the third depicting a Spanish dance, all on black bases, the largest 2¾in. Original vintage Marvel comic book advertising poster featuring the fictional superhero Thor created by the writer and editor Stan Lee (b 1922) and designed by the comic book artist Jack Kirby (1917-1994). Based on the Norse mythological god of thunder - Thor - this dynamic image features the cartoon character in his blue outfit with yellow boots, yellow T winged belt and red cape with a winged helmet spinning his enchanted hammer Mjolnir that gives him the ability of flight and weather manipulation. A beautiful and rare ' Night Vigil Over Gotham ' black and white pencil print of Batman. The print by DC Comics, 1991. Featuring Batman looming over Gotham, with his cape around the city. Has been remarqued (added to) by Batman co-creator Bob Kane in pencil, who has added ' Bats Wishes ' above his printed signature, and then a sketch of Batman beneath. Rare in this form. Birds.- Layard (Edgar Leopold) The Birds of South Africa, edited by R. Bowdler Sharpe, 12 hand-coloured lithograph plates by J.G. Keulemans, without pp.856-866 as usual, modern brown morocco, [Anker 281; Wood p.428], 8vo, Bernard Quaritch, 1875-84.⁂ A very good copy of this second and augmented edition, dedicated by Sharpe to Layard. The first edition appeared in Cape Town in 1867.
Australasia.- New Zealand.- Marshall (William Barrett) A Personal Narrative of Two Visits to New Zealand, in his Majesty's Ship Alligator, A.D. 1834, first edition, half-title, wood-engraved frontispiece, errata leaf and advertisement leaf at end, light foxing throughout, old sheet of notes concerning the capture of the Guard family loosely inserted, a few pencil annotations, original diced brown cloth, spine titled in gilt, rubbed and lightly stained, spine faded, very short split to head of joint, [Hocken p.59], 12mo, 1836.⁂ Scarce account of two contrasting expeditions to New Zealand by the surgeon on board H.M.S.Alligator, the first to the Bay of Islands and the mission there, the second in order to rescue Mrs. Guard, her two children and some sailors who had been taken captive following their shipwreck at Cape Egmont.
World.- South Atlantic.- Purdy (John, hydrographer) Memoir, Descriptive and Explanatory, to accompany the New Chart of the Ethiopic or Southern Atlantic Ocean, to the Cape of Good-Hope and Cape Horn, with South Shetland, and the Western Coasts of South America..., 4 double-page engraved maps mounted on stubs, illustrations, 16pp. publisher's catalogue of charts etc. at end, a few ink annotations, offsetting to maps, slightly cropped, nineteenth century straight-grain calf, gilt, spine faded, a little rubbed, [Not in the British Library], 8vo, R.H.Laurie, 1824.⁂ Rare; COPAC lists only 2 copies with this title (Royal Society, and another in National Library of Scotland but dated 1822). The maps are of the Falkland Islands (2), South Shetland Islands and Tierra del Fuego.
